Weird Connection Issues

Theres other posters on the actual Motorola Forums that are posting with the exact same issues. Damn I really dont want to swap out my phone, it took hours to customize, and I LOVE the hell out of it... but this wifi issue is SO annoying to the point where maybe I wish I had the iphone 4 instead.

I hear ya on that. I sent a support email to Motorola, not holding my breath on that one though.

Been on the Motorola forums also myself.

Seems this is more widespread than I thought.

Ideally, my replacement will fix it. If not, they better get cracking on an update to address this.

Derek, mine has the same issues as yours only perhaps a little less often than yours. My main issue is that, every time I try to load the Market or Browser, the initial opening will immediately pop up "CONNECTION FAILED" or whatever, with a button on the bottom that says "Retry", which I hit. When I hit that button, it usually almost immediately loads whatever I'm trying to load, for instance, the Market. But it rarely ever loads it the first time even when I'm just one floor up above my router. Plus even if I didn't have WiFi it should be using AT&T's network as a backup to load it, correct? So something's obviously wrong here. The phone has trouble connecting & staying connected even when super close to the source of connection. Wifi = never sleep btw.

Also, I'm about to shoot you a PM.

I was just having issues with the market too but think I found my issue.

I went to the market and it would freeze on the home page and force close if I tried to click an app. I opened up My Apps (from market menu) and it showed a couple of apps trying to update. I let them install and no further issues.

I think I fixed my issue.

With my Linksys under security I disabled the

block anon internet requests
Filter Multicast
Filter Ident (port 113)

No disconnects since, Ill mess with adding each one back to see what one was killing my connection.

I turned my wifi on because I was home and then I wanted to test my 3G speed at home. Turned wifi off and then I lost the data connection. It showed the H+ symbol and full bars but not the arrows below the H. Switch on/off airplane mode didn't help. I had to reboot the phone to fix the problem. Is there maybe a problem with the handshake between Wifi and 3G?

i am having issues with streaming on the network signal.. I was able to stream with a bb torch in the same exact location but now i am not able to.

It is def the phone or its settings that are screwing up my data experience!!

same issue on mine too, it's easy to turn off the wifi and turn it back on (which fixes it) but we shouldn't have to do that. surely it'll be fixed with an update.

so far i am annoyed with the droid experience (Data experience)

I had a problem with wi-fi, as in even though my wi-fi was connected (after long time) I was not able to open the webpages.
After some trial and error, I was able to solve the problem by changing my router security from WPA/WPA2 to WEP. Hopefully it helps!!

I am having the same problem as many of you at my house. Horribly slow and getting network failures. Just tried it at work and it is fine.

Might want to play with your settings a little bit more before returning it.

it hasn't happened as often on mine as it did at first, but i did notice that when the wifi stops working the up and down data activity arrows are present, then they go away and wifi starts working again, there was one point where i was at my house on wifi, then left, and the data did not work where i was at, once again no data activity arrows, restarted the phone and got data just fine.
definitely something that can be fixed with a software update.

I have similar problem .. I would be using wifi at home and it works fine then I goto to sleep, it would automatically switch to 3g and do data syncing. It would be ok if it wasn't for the fact that I am on the 200mb plan.

My wifi settings are set to never to sleep and battery is night mode.

Replacement phone is scheduled to be delivered today.

Hopefully, these problems go away. If not, I'm not sure what I'm going to do. Perhaps Inspire? Or, maybe just switch over to Verizon and wait for the Thunderbolt.

Let us know how it works out. Would you mind trying it on a call? Meaning, be on a call and on your wifi network, then try to browse different sites. This is how I've been able to consistently recreate the issue of it dropping wifi for cellular and then going back. I've also run some speed test and it seriously slows me down. When I'm not on a call I get 10Mbps down and 3-4 up, when I'm on a call 2-3 down and 2-3 up, and randomly the speed test will kick wifi off as well.

Seems to be a pretty big issue since there are a ton of threads on the wifi issues on the motorola support forums.

For me to get around (most) of the issue, I had to just completely turn wifi off and leave it off.

I still drop a connection from the ATT network here and there, but, far less than I did when wifi was or had been on.

I just posted this on another thread. It works for us with unlimited data but those with capped plans really NEED the wifi and cellular to play nice together.

Precisely.

I can do the majority of my app downloading/updating at home if I've got wifi. Otherwise, it doesn't matter and I go over my usage.
