Just happened at top right of screen, lines of white and sometimes green text always starting with com. Some kind of running process. Have turned off every possible update but it doesn't stop even in safe mode. in the lines of text is system_server. Another line says com.android.systemui. Turn off tablet and it starts up again recycling same stuff. Weird
REPLY TO VIDJUNKY. there was no option on my screen to reply to you so hope you get this one. I cleared the cache as you suggested but the process is back so it looks like a hard reset (bugger). It all seemed to start when I went into widgets. Thanks for your help.

Well com.(whatever inserted here) is how Android names apps. So if you were running Google Voice it would be com.google.voice . In your case however it's your system UI that is crashing. And since it also happens in safe mode it is not likely to be due to a bad app, there is actually something happening with the UI. You should probably try to clear your cache partition.

Here's how to do that; https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-28382

If this doesn't work you may have to go the full factory reset road.

Thanks VidJunky, I cleared the cache as you suggested but it didn't fix the problem so I had to do a hard reset :(
For some reason I couldn't reply to you earlier because there was no reply option on the page. Thanks for help. I use the old TAB for travelling mostly so there wasn't a lot to reinstall. I tried to get a USB keyboard working on the tablet but that isn't recognised either. Can't win them all

If your Developer Options menu is active, go there (Settings>Developer Options) and see if any of those options have been turned on.

Nothing there to help. External keyboards not being recognized in input methods as Samsung keyboard default is fixed. Thanks for suggestion.

Glad that you didn't have to loose much with the reset. Sorry I can't help you with the keyboard. My kids have had tabs with keyboards but they have all come with the tabs and at least one of the models was wired to the tab somehow. LOL

It certainly sounds like something in Developer Options. It’s nothing like this, then?

That's exactly what was showing. I've since done a hard reset and it hasn't come back. The problem seemed to have happened after I went into widgets. The process you show was visible on all pages regardless.

further, the button "Show CPU usage" was not on when this process was running, No buttons in Developer options were on otherwise that would explain it.

If it was a glitch in Developer options, I'll know what to look for if it happens again. CPU usage overlay sure looks like the culprit. thanks
