We've got the HTC 10 and we're answering your questions right here!

Re: We've got the HTC 10 — and we're answering your questions right here!

Phone calls, 3G data should work on any GSM worldwide carrier since the bands are standard accross the world.
For LTE, you can check the HTC website for the us unlocked version and see if the LTE bands your carrier uses is supported.

According to GSM Arena's spec list, the US version supports LTE Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, 13, 17, 20, 28, 29, and 30. The EMEA version supports LTE bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20, 28, 38, 40, and 41.

Given that list, I think Sprint is getting a specialty version, unless HTC isn't supporting Sprint's LTE Band 41.

Interestingly, the US version supports 5-band 3G (850/900/AWS/1900/2100. The EMEA version drops AWS 3G support.

If price WAS a factor. So let's say I've got the 10 pre-ordered for $599 using the $100 off coupon. And let's say I could get a Nexus 6P 64gb off Swappa for around $475 or so. What is the better decision?

I have a big soft-spot for HTC. I currently use a M9 and don't hate it nearly as much as most people do. So I'm pretty torn. The 10 appears to be everything I like about the M9 without any of the stuff I don't like. But I also really like stock Android and the fast updates. I've owned almost every other Nexus device and really like them all.

In that case the big deciding factor may be SD support. Are you prepared for 64 GB to be all you'll ever have without replacing the phone? Or would you like to buy a 200+GB SD card later on? And how much is that worth to you.

I've got a 32 GB Nexus 6, which was fine...for a while. But now I'm really feeling the lack of an SD slot. And Nexuses NEVER have SD slots. :(

I hope I'm not too late.
I have the Samsung s6 currently. Had the M7 before that.
I miss HTC and want to go back.

I'm fine with the screen being slightly better on the Samsung. Im sure HTC looks pretty good and the difference, if any, would only be noticed when compared next to each other. And that isn't happening.

The battery can't be worse than the s6 either.

My only question is about the camera.
The launch times are fine.

How does it compare to the s6 camera in auto mode? Both in daylight and in poor lighting conditions?
As long as it's not a step down, I'm getting the 10

Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I must admit that I do like having the SD slot on my M9. But on the other hand, I think 64gb is plenty for me. I couldn't do 32, but I wouldn't worry too much about 64. I've got a 64gb card in my phone now and I'm only using 20gb or so and I don't foresee my needs changing.

Considering the two current colors available (and I understand this is a matter of preference), what color looks best to you? Does the black variant show a lot of fingerprints? Does it have a different feel?

This is what I hate about these threads. If you look at the many that AC has done over the last year or so, they hit it hard and answer a ton of questions for a few hours, but then NEVER revisit it. People keep coming in with questions and nothing is ever answered after the first day.

Harumph :-\

Black it is

Alex, Have you asked HTC or do you anticipate any updates in the near future to improve camera issues noted or address battery life concerns?

I actually think Samsung's AMOLED screens are a bit over-the-top with the way they pop, LCD seems more natural. I always need to adjust my Samsung screens but the LCD ''s are already perfect with none of the yellowish tint on the whites, but that's just my opinion.
The reviews had me thinking that I would be getting a lower quality screen with the 10 but I checked out an S7 today and found the display to be obnoxious. Intensity and saturation were unpleasant on the eyes compared to the LCDs I'm used to. Couple that with an ugly gui and numerous other things I didn't care for and I find myself leaning further and further toward the 10.

Why not try "Basic" screen mode? I use it on my Note because I hate eye searing colors. Any recent Samsung on Basic screen mode has been rated as the most color accurate display in the world.

Benefits of Samsung's brightness control + color accuracy = no contest.

Just sayin'. I like the 10 too, but it's screen is a objective weakness compared to Samsung.

I messed with it and could not find anything I liked other than the depth of the black portions. I've learned a long time ago to trust my own eyes. Just because the reviews are pushing one thing doesn't mean it's necessarily the best, or the best for me. Accuracy does not always = pleasant to look at (same applies to audio). I find phone reviews to be poor sources of info. After all, there is no schooling or standard by which to grade a smartphone and few of these people doing it have more than a consumer level understanding of audio, photography, etc. Case in point, the cameras reviews.

The S7 was just a huge let-down in several ways that I didn't expect. When it comes down to it, the areas in which it might have a slight edge (battery, wireless charge) are not areas that I'm particularly interested in. I'm not fully ready to jump on the 10 yet though until I can experience it myself later this month. Who knows, maybe it won't hit me the way I'm expecting. I hung onto the M8 for over 2 years because I haven't found anything I liked better (including more recent HTC phones). If the 10 beats it then I'll be happy to go with that.

OMG! that picture on HowardForum... Heartbreaking. It better look better in real life. I like movies as well as music. On the plus side you can make phone calls with it. ;)

Without Adaptive, you lose the over-boost brightness function of the S6/7/Note. Then you're just left with the same max Nits as the HTC 10.

I like Adaptive just fine, I just don't like AMOLED's lifespan and its faster dying blue pixels which will lead to a yellower display in a few years of use. I don't keep my phones that long, and certainly, I keep my Samsung devices the shortest.

No. You do not.

The boost works in Basic mode.

He said somewhere in the thread already that they had just received an update for the camera which made it faster but it still is not going to beat out the S7 if that is what you are comparing it to when it comes to speed of launch and snaps.

Will go test this now... As far as I knew, only Adaptive Color works for boosting the brightness to 850nits.

I use it daily on my Note 5. Had it in Lollipop and MM. Do note, however, that over boost uses some sort of high contrast mode, which leads me to believe that no matter what display setting you're on, you're getting the same boost experience.
