what a let down TB sucks!

Hmmmm... Thunderbolts been announced, but still nothing about specs...

was watching the news feeds as well from 3 different sites and i was left like.. WTF??

but i just now ran into this..
Verizon Launches 4G Phones (Phone Scoop)

Verizon today launched 4G service for consumers, including LTE smartphones and tablets. The phones include:

LG Revolution: An Android 2.2 slab phone with 4.3-inch screen, dual cameras, and mobile hotspot for up to 8 devices.
HTC Thunderbolt: An Android slab phone with 4.3-inch screen, HTC Sense 2.0, 1 GHz processor, 8-megapixel main camera, front camera, mobile hotspot for up to 8 devices, and DLNA.
Samsung "4G LTE Smartphone": Android 2.2 slab with 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, 1 GHz processor, 8-megapixel main camera, 1.3-megapixel front camera and "HD-quality" video recording.
Motorola Droid Bionic 4G: Android phone with 4.3-inch screen, 8-megapixel camera, dual-core 1 GHz processor, and HDMI output.
Devices will launch starting in March and all four phones should be available by mid-year. Two-way video calling will be included on Verizon 4G phones, powered by Skype Mobile, integrated with contacts. Phone and phone plan pricing was not announced. The LTE network currently covers 38 major markets; it will cover 140 additional markets by the end of 2011, and 2/3 of the US population by mid-2012.

This was such a disappointment in my opinion. This phone had so much potential but is going to be outdated before its released and be overshadowed by so many other phones coming out.

+1

a let down by verizon and by htc

how can htc make an ad like the we saw, "beyond your dream phone" (paraphrasing)

and verizon, we have the cake you want (LTE and the devices) but we cant eat it (buy or use now).

Yeah that **** was wack, not giving. Up the dinc. For the **** they showed, two thumbs down

just as i posted in the OP huge let down... and htc didnt even talk about a feature phone like moto and lg wow smh

it will probably be a little bit better than an evo but really for a ces show, you'd expect a WOW.. especially after those BS ads.

i now have a storm 1. TB will probably still blow my storm away - but being with it after half a year would already make it outdated to all the dual cores coming out.

htc didnt try much here, could be they had lots of evo parts laying around and verizon also dictating to them what WE need.

i dont think i'll be waiting or going for the Bionic and will go with the TB, i really do hope battery life does/will not suck

also, what the hell is vzw problem to release info.. we know what they look like, we know the guts, tell us when we can buy them and how much they'll cost... but NO, lets leave it as a mystery!

I agree dude. The Thunderbolt will SMOKE my Storm out of the water, but compared to the Dual core phones? I just don't know. I think I may just go with the Droid Bionic...

I was holding out hope but it looks like Motorola won this round (or even LG). The loser IMO is HTC. I'm much more out to buy the Bionic over the Thunderbolt. Especially since they say the TB will be available by "mid-year". If it was sooner, it may get more consideration. But it'll come out close to the Bionic and will have much inferior specs.

Well, it comes down to a trade-off now: Stick with the T-bolt and settle with slower (but still not slow!!) hardware, but with TONS of customization and hackability... or wait for the motorola with better hardware, but then be stuck with their garbage of a skin called motoblur and a locked bootloader

What's it gonna be? Bleeding edge performance, or customization and hackability with tons of themes and ROMs to choose from (can't choose both)

As for me, I'm sticking with the T-bolt. While the specs aren't the fastest thing available (with tech there is ALWAYS something faster and better around the corner), it'll still be a super fast phone with everything I need/want. If it drops this month it'll be the fastest phone that Verizon has ever released. And I'm a phone hacker who spends most of his time on XDA flashing ROMs, so HTC's hacker-friendly setup is a win for me

EDIT: Engadget has video. They really like the phone, it seems:

i know what you mean, though 2 things that bug me, the wait time to bionic and motoblur. to be honest have never owned an android yet, though i keep reading/hearing motoblur is the one to avoid. i do give them much credit as a great looking device, moto has always had great build quality, and the dual core AND that big battery (i think)

Valid point. However it does look like Motoblur has evolved (or is at least different than what's on the DX and D2). And while Motorolas have been hacked, it's not as friendly as the HTCs. Whichever phone i get will be my first Android. So Im not sure how much customization I'll want to do, but I'm definitely on the side of more capability the better.

I think I'm leaning towards the Thunderbolt, even if it does have lesser specs than the dual core phones. It would be nice to have some release dates.

Yeah I never had android before either. I always heard Motorola devices are HORRIBLE and shouldn't go to them at all. So I'M SOOOOOOOOOO confused on what to do. I have 2 year contract but can upgrade right now til May. So maybe I should just wait and see.

Only thing I've seen is that the earliest Verizon will have LTE phones is March. Based on that I'd say March, but LG's Revolution and Motorola's Bionic wouldn't be too far behind.

I guess I'm amongst the minority who thinks the display of the Bionic is by far its greatest feature. People are posting as if the TB is somehow a slug because it doesn't have a dual core. The MT4G and Desire HD (same hardware) bench at like 18-1900 STOCK. That thing is blazingly fast. You all are crazy to assume otherwise.

Anyway. one advantage if you were to get it now, is that by the summer when the Bionic will likely be released, the TB will have some REALLY cool hacks available for it.

I think the TB will definitely be fast. The thing is when you compare to other devices, not just as a standalone. And I'd bet the Bionic and Revolution would beat it, stock.

Also, while the TB will be the first LTE phone released, it won't be too far ahead of the Bionic and Revolution (if you believe the reports). So I'm not sure how much will be done for the TB before the others are released.
