What are my options for HTC Desire 620? (not dual SIM)

Hi. I have an HTC Desire 620 (not the dual sim version) and was wondering what my options were for updating beyond android 4.4. I gather I need to root the phone and have found some information but it seems to be for the dual SIM version.

I'm new to all this and have never rooted a phone before but am fairly experienced with computers. I've built several PCs and installed and run various Linux distributions (including Gentoo).

All advice gratefully received, I am looking forward to my journey into bringing new life tto old phones.

Honestly - a device that's only been updated to 4.4 isn't really worth rooting and trying to upgrade to a newer version of Android. To make it at all worthwhile long-term you would need to got to at least 7, if not 8. That device simply won't run that well.

I agree with hallux, but if you still want to pursue it, then the forums at XDA-Developers.com are generally a better resource for that kind of thing.
