What are some ways to save battery?

This is my first time with Android so I don't know the tricks to save battery. I had 93% at 3:30 PM and got home at 8PM. The phone was at 17% around 7:30 PM mostly from just staying in my pocket, so I turned it off. I didn't make any calls, only texts during that time. That is a horrible battery if you ask me. I had GPS and Wi-Fi turned off, plus used task killer a few times an hour. The battery would drain no matter what. Are there ANY other ways to save battery besides turning off basic services, which obviously doesn't really work on the Amaze. My old iPod touch has 5x the battery this thing has. Also, does anyone know how to turn off the sounds that the Amaze plays after you unlock it? Mine doesn'tt play it all the time, but its a swoosh kind of sound right after I unlock it. I don't care for it and I don't know how to turn it off. It's not a lock/unlock sound either.

Go into settings after you hit the weather app. Turn off the sounds. For battery life you may need to give a week or so before it gets better. But you can turn off sync and do it manually. Turn off mobile and use wifi whenever possible. Or you may try to download an app that monitors battery use so you can find out which app(s) arent sleeping. Also, try to keep your display setting on auto if you're indoors or turn it down. Once your device gets conditioned to your way of using it, the battery life will get better. Also, make sure you have enable power efficiency on and power saver on under the power saver settings. If none of that satisfies, you might think of purchasing a larger battery. You can find some replacements either on ebay or amazon that are quite cheap and really do last longer than the stock battery option. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the help on the weather sounds. And i turned off background data thanks to you i found it. I think that will drastically improve the battery.

I really wanted to get this phone but how I'm worried about battery life. I've been reading that t-mobile's Galaxy SII is getting 2 hours more battery life when used the exact same way.

:(

Depends on how you use the device and what else you're running. Get what you like, battery life is one of easiest things to work around when you know how. And the GS2 also has a bigger battery than the Amaze and its also using a Samoled+ screen which uses less power than a SLCD. That 2 more hours is relative imo.

The display is going to be one of the biggest factors in battery life. A couple easy tips to increase battery life are adjusting the screen timeout or hitting the power button when you are done looking at the screen. It is also helpful to turn down the screen brightness and there is a preloaded widget which allows you to adjust the screen brightness to three levels. When looking at battery usage it is usually the display which is eating the most battery so a few adjustments on the screen will really help.

I was between the Amaze and sensation 4G when I switched to T-Mobile last month, I actually decided to get the Sensation because it has relatively the same specs as the Amaze, and looks a bit sexier :)

I can get atleast 12 hours from my battery on moderate use, using the Android Revolution HD rom for the HTC Sensation 4G. So I would suggest to those having problems with battery to root and install a custom rom, it will probably drastically increase battery life, longer then you could ever imagine. :)

flashing a custom ROM doesn't mean its going to use less battery. With root you can freeze apps running in the background but that won't stop from 4g killing your battery life. Best suggestion is turning of your mobile network. You will still get service but no internet connection.

I am surprised that no one has mentioned this: Don't use a task killer. They actually don't do anything beneficial. When you constantly kill apps, that kills the battery as well. The thing is, the Android OS is designed to open specific apps. If you kill them, it is just going to restart them, again, wasting battery life. All you need to do to end an app is hit the back button until you return to your home screen. Uninstall it and try it out for a few days. You'll notice less lag and better battery life.

Also remember, these phones are basically mini computers. They are really powerful devices, and they do require a bunch of energy to run all of these processes. Expecting them to run on a small power source such as a battery for days on end is unrealistic. Your laptop only lasts what, maybe 5 hours on a single charge?? These lasting 8-24 hours is pretty awesome! :D

The Amaze has an app thats a task manager, you dont need to download one, its pretty good.

Bluetooth, wifi, and screen brightness.

Take one of the home screens and put the power control widget on it and task manager.

Makes it easy to adjust screen brightness on the fly, and turn off bluetooth when not in use, etc.

I leave my screen brightness on the lowest setting unless I'm in bright sunlight.
