What are the US carrier options for the Nexus 5, or any LTE phone?

Does anyone know the limitations of some of the lower tier services.

For example, what is the difference between AIO, GoPhone and actually getting AT&T service. Surely they are not exactly the same in terms of coverage right?

Good question, I'd like to know also. And how about the difference in coverage and service, if any, of an MVNO such as Straight Talk on AT&T's network? I thought I had heard that there may be a difference in coverage because the roaming agreements with other providers are different? If someone knows, can you please enlighten us?

Basically, the MVNOs don't have roaming agreements, so your phone will only work on the AT&T network.

I see. That's good to know, thanks! Are you using one of these MVNOs with AT&T? Would I be correct in assuming that the lack of roaming would pretty much only affect you if/when you venture to rural areas? In metro areas, there's essentially no difference?

Thanks. That basically kills them for me. I'm a cyclist and often out away from the city and I need coverage. I know that where I go has coverage of one type or another based on being on both ATT and Verizon. But I could not put up with "Roaming"...thats so 1990s!

$30 T-MOBILE PREPAID 100min/5GB/unlimited text plan. Prepaid Cell Phone Plans, No Credit Check | Monthly 4G | T-Mobile
These were details I wanted to find out about the plan.

OVERAGE MINUTES on any 30-day cycle will be covered as needed by additional money sitting in your account, and transferred into calling minutes at $.10/min (not in $10/100min sums). Two different T-Mobile prepaid representatives just clearly explained this to me, but correct me if you were charged differently.

4G LTE COVERAGE applies to this account Prepaid Cell Phone Coverage | Pay As You Go Phone Coverage | T-Mobile

TETHERING is not inherent to the plan, but $15 will be deducted from any addional money sitting in your account to allow tethering until the end of your 30 days.

NO ROAMING.

Still sounds great to me!

Anybody have any insight at all as to If Verizon will get the N5? I know the chances are very small but one can still have some hope.

I am in NW Ohio so Verizon is literally all that works. It's very unfortunate. All the big name hyped phones are at&t exclusives or GSM.

personally i'm going with AT&T GoPhone - $60/Month for Unlimited Talk/Text and 2GB LTE Data with 1GB/$10 available as needed. BYOD.

Why not get the Straight Talk plan for $45. Unlimited Talk/Text 2.5 GB LTE/HSPA data on AT&T

i'm worried about the reports of Straight Talk cutting off your data (to zero) if you use more than 150MB/day. i like to stream Pandora for 1+ hour daily hikes so i don't want to worry about that uncertainty. i'll prob choose GoPhone for less uncertainty. i don't need my data and balls cut off - especially without notice.

I'm with Sprint. I considered going with an MVNO, but the lack of roaming access prevents me. I spend a decent amount of time in an area where I would have no coverage if I couldn't roam on the Verizon network.
Your assumption is essentially correct, but it's not necessarily rural vs. urban areas. As long as your MVNO uses a network that has good coverage in your area, it should not be a problem.

I know they have publicly stated that you will be throttled to EDGE data after 2.5 GB, but I had not heard anything about a daily limit.
