What are your current gripes with the Pixel / XL?

There are so many strengths unique to each that a strong argument could be made for either, depending on individual priorities. And that's not just Pixel vs iPhone, it's any flagship vs any flagship. As to justifying the price... It's an easy thing to argue that none of these flagships offer enough value to justify the price. And they're right. But if people can afford and want them, they should go for it - the only person who has to justify the price of a product is the person who's buying it. I bought a Pixel XL, and couldn't care less what others think, just like they shouldn't care what I think about their phone selection.

Well said.

is there a third party app for this? I love the active notifications on moto displays too and I hope google will build that in their phones one day.

Besides it being a little pricey nothing really. Only app related. My eBay app seems to be very jittery when browsing and loading compared to our Samsungs.

So far I'm really liking it. Coming from a Galaxy S5 it's taken me a few days to get used to it.
I have 2 minor complaints though. 1) Taking a screenshot. It doesn't work everytime and you need two hands to do it. Just make a swipe gesture. 2) not really a complaint i guess and won't be an issue after my case arrives, but holy chit is this phone slick! It slides off of everything. I'm extremely careful with my phones and this one almost slips out of my hand daily. Be careful.

Not everyone does the cloud. I just put 17 gb of music, collected over many many years, on my 128 gb XL. Much of it is not easily available to stream, and there is no streaming service I like anyway. Many of the files are flac. I don't understand how anyone can get along for 2 years with 32 gb. So you know, to each their own.
Different wants and needs is how. An example is me. You care about flac files.. I don't. I happen to love Google play music and it has all the music I like plus more. I use the cloud a lot and also have unlimited data.

Not all of us are in the same situation. I snagged a 128 GB incase I do go on trips (rare for me). Do I think I could have gotten by on 32? Yes. Due to the reasons above. I decided not to simply for being lazy :P.

My Biggest gripe, waiting for my 128gb to arrive. been playing around with a 32gb love it just want my actual device to come in

Coming from a Galaxy S6 and have had the Pixel for about a day:
1. No wireless charging.
2. Car and phone bluetooth are not getting along (won't connect, when it does then randomly disconnects/reconnects) - 2014 Mazda
3. I want to set contact-specific text alert sounds. I have figured out contact-specific call ringtones but can't seem to set different text alerts.
4. Can't seem to customize the look of the date/time display on home screen. Also can't remove the swipe to google search tab. And can't set a different background image for lock screen vs home screen. I like my screens to be 100% customizable.
5. Emoji collection on my S6 was way cooler than these. Maybe a different keyboard or 3rd party app?
6. Smartlock at home address seems to take a while to remember to work at times.
7. Two of my apps just disappeared this morning from my screens.
8. Battery life is okay. Not stellar.
9. Can't find/figure out the Verizon visual voicemail feature. Loved that on the S6.

Still deciding whether to keep or go back for the S7.

I've been tooling around with AcDisplay to see if it's something I can live with. The prox sensor isnt near as good as on any of the moto phones but it does work. The only other annoying thing is I can't seem to find a way to not have to unlock 2 screens. Oh well. Hopefully this becomes an Android feature in subsequent releases and then we don't have to worry about it.

I've missed not having wireless charging since I gave up my Nexus 6... Weird the 6p and now the Pixel do not have wireless charging when Google was pushing that pretty good for awhile and now it seems like they've just gave up on it completely. It was way slower than even regular wired charging but I had a charging pad at work and two at home. It was so much easier to set it down without having to reach for and plug the phone up. But not THAT big a deal. I just liked it.

I wish they had gone with dual front facing speakers. Speaker seems to be okay but I do find myself accidentally covering it up with my hand from time to time. Again the 6 and 6p both had dual front facing speakers and now they've gone back to the speaker at the bottom. Feels like they went backwards again.

The "Chin" again I don't understand the larger than needed blank space? If they had put a front facing speaker or the finger print scanner (I love the scanner being on the back compared to my work iPhone with it at the bottom/front) I wish they had extended the screen up a little more than 5.5, put a speaker down there or reduced the overall footprint of the device.. Granted the 6p was easier to handle than the 6 and now the Pixel (at least for me) seems to hit a good size point that works well.. If they made it just a little smaller by reducing that chin it could have been a hair better.

and then of course pricing.. I moved away from Apple years ago because I always felt their products were grossly over priced and Android was always more affordable with more options. I've had the Nexus one, 4, 5, 6 and 6p and the pricing was amazing for the product you got. Now they've moved that right at the iPhone territory to where it's fairly expensive but at the same time in line with the iPhone, Samsung and some other flagships....

I think coming from Samsung Galaxy phones, it takes awhile to get use to the Pixel. I wasn't liking it, but after about 5 days it's growing on me. Especially the camera which is freaking amazing. You mentioned battery life. I read a review where the XL has better battery life than the regular model. So far I'm getting excellent battery usage out of my XL. Hasn't been below 50% by the time I go to bed at night yet. And I use it a lot during the day.
Also, you can def set different backgrounds for Lock and Home. I have it. It gives you that option when you choose the background.
As far as VM goes, I read somewhere that you need to either download the verizon vm app, or just long press 1 on the phone keypad.
I'm having some difficulty with the SmartLock at home feature as well. Doesn't recognize after I've been gone awhile.

For 3, this functionality is built right into the messaging app. When you have a specific person's conversation up go to menu and select people & options and from there when you change the notification sound it is for that specific contact.

For 4, you can set a separate home screen and lock screen background. That's how I have mine set up.

I dislike how the volume is on the right . Most other phones it's on the left. When the phone is in my pocket and I want to adjust, half the time I press the power key, and accidentally open the camera!

Simple, I can't believe how many features that were standard on the Moto's are missing on this.

Thanks!! I think the Pixel XL is doing much better on battery life than the regular Pixel from what I'm seeing. Have you found a way to put a VM shortcut icon on the home screen?

The visual voicemail is already built in on my pixel xl. You just hit the phone button and its there on the right. You have icon for favorite contacts, recent calls, contacts and visual voicemail icon

Yeah. According to Apple site 256 gb iPhone 7 plus is 969

I feel like the pixel is getting some unfair hate due to the price. Many people think it's too expensive, so they want to find reasons to justify it.

While you compare with iPhone 7 it really only the water resistant that the iPhone has over the pixel. But ppl don't talk about the higher resolution, or the fact that pixel's screen is 0.3 inch larger than the regular iPhone. Or how much you would have to pay for unlimited storage of full size photo and video.

And besides that there's also a much much faster CPU, stereo speakers, Taptic Engine, 3DTouch and dual cameras with optical image stabilisation built into the iPhone 7 Plus. That's a lot more hardware potential.

I have a list of custom sounds that were moved from my S6 over but they're not showing up when I go to change the sound for a contact. I found them in a folder (settings - storage - audio) but don't know how to get them where they need to be for me to actually use. When I select and tell it "copy to" or "move to" the only options are drive or recent/downloads. Do you know how to save/move/store audio files so phone can use them?

Yes there should be a folder named Notifications, they need to go in there

If you go to settings... storage... at the bottom select explore and the file manager will come up. It should allow to navigate to copy or move the files
