What are your experiences from carrier store employees on the M8 vs the S5?

I was in Old Town Pasadena this weekend and saw that the employees at the Sprint store had the Samsung Galaxy S5 t-shirts on. And when I walked across the street to the AT&T Store, they were all wearing HTC T-shirts!

I despise my AT&T store. They don't know jack (edited by Moderator) and just aggravate me. I was playing with an M8 when some chick came (obviously an iPhone user) and couldnt figure out how to use a damn S5 for the life of her. The employee helping her knew nearly as much...she asked the employee if the S5 had panorama like the iPhone and she was like ughhhhh i think so, then couldn't find it after 5 minutes while I'm smirking on the side of them, and says "Oh I guess it doesn't have it". This just pissed me off until I just came up to them and was like "ughh yeah, it does have Panorama mode, along with a (edited by Moderator) load of other modes/features in the camera your iPhone dreams of having" and proceeded to show her.

I swear if I worked at AT&T ......

Well , I am rep at T-Mo and I have worked for att prior to that so been in the cell biz for about 8 years now and I can tell you right now the reps can care less what device you choose and why you choose it. Our job is to make sure you walk out with service. We don't get anything from the phone sale itself but we make our commission on the plans you choose and the accessories you buy.. People ask me all the time what phone is better or what you think "I" should get. I can recommend devices but only from my personal experiences and mine will be different from yours. My favorite customer is the person that know what they want and has done their homework it makes my job much easier..

That's true. When I preordered my M8 at Att, the rep said it made his job so much easier since I knew what I wanted and why.

My two local At&t didn't quite recommend one over the other. But both stores employee wise did say they personally thought the M8 was the better choice. They only seemed to recommend the S5 if i was into the fitness apps it comes with and the heartbeat sensor. And of course if the phone being water resistant if that was a concern.

My experiences with store employees comes to one conclusion, 99% of them hate their job.

Most will push whichever phone they themselves like OR whichever needs more accessories to sell (which is where they make the most commissions, not the phones)

I bought mine from a Tmobile store last Friday. The store reps were all gathered over by the GS5 display. And I walked right up to the M8 display and started to play with it. I told myself if they even tried to push the GS5 on me I was probably going to go off on them as I was already miffed about Tmobile not selling this the same time the other carriers were. And the fact that Tmobile had the GS5 preorders on their websit for months before it was even for sale, yet they couldnt even put a coming soon for the the M8, just a registration to be notified by email of availability which I did sign up for. And they STILL emailed me about the GS5 first and I didnt ask about that device. So it was clear to me they'd try to push a GS5 on me, but I didnt give them the opportunity. I went for my preciousss and got it and he still set my device up wrong. This is why I hate going into the stores. I reset it once I got home, used HTC transfer tool to import my device settings from cloud backup and I was up and running in 5 minutes with everything the way i had on my previous device.

I think it is how you present yourself as a consumer. If a failrly knowledgeable consumer goes into a carrier store, or Best Buy, or whatever and says to the clerk "I am looking for this insert phone here" usually they don't give you much hassle. However, if the consumer is just a regular 'joe' then of course the sales clerk is going to push the latest or hottest model of whatever device is out on the market.

I had no problem at Future Shop getting the One M8. Although the guy had no clue it was a nano-sim card.

Also after having talked to a few Bell employees, sometimes their hands are tied as to what they are suppose to push (*cough* iPhone *cough*) to the consumer.

When i picked up my M8 the guy was trying to talk me into the S5 saying he read that the S5 was blowing away the M8 in every category...lol The BS he was giving, what he didnt know is i do some development over on XDA and there isn't anything that chicken farmer could say that would talk me out of my new shiny M8....lol

Samsung is slowly becoming the Apple of Android.
Lots of marketing and developing a strong following. Just like Apple.
The GS2 and GS3 were good products but i think they are trying to create to much add on software. But that only applies to the GS4. The Note 2 and Note 3 were awesome products.
I have officially transitioned from my Note 3 to my M8 and am not looking back.
