what devices are getting gingerbread?

I bailed from Palm too and am hoping my EVO (which came with Froyo) will get Gingerbread.

It has it. Just root and install a cyanogen mod 7 nightly. It may be nightly but they are stable. I am running it and there are a few bugs but well worth it.

But sprint will put out gingerbread for the evo they have too much to loose if they don't.

Why are the new phones coming out loaded with 2.2 rather than 2.3? Will we at least be able to upgrade the Bionic to 2.3 or 3.0?

Because they were developed with 2.2 and waiting to get it out with 2.3 would take months and by then the next version may be out. So get it out now and start developing.

I'm trying to learn Android before I switch this Spring/Summer or sooner. I thought one of the great things about Android was the O/S. When a new one comes out you could easily upgrade your existing phone to that new O/S? Could someone please explain? THANKS!

Google releases their code base for android and developers like htc, samsung and motorola have to modify and tweak that code to work on their devices with their interface. That is why not every device gets it at the same time.

Thank you! Ok, I understand now. Does HTC or Moto have a better "track record" of upgrading, or will the Bionic eventually get 2.3 or 3.0? I just though since it isn't suppose to be released until June, they would put 2.3 on it by the time it came out.

Neither. Devices with vanilla android come first. Because of the success of sense and a bit with motor blur Google if I am not mistaken is developing their own ui that makes vanilla android less intimidating and more user friendly. That's what honeycomb will be.

Im hoping the Galaxy S phones will get the new update. Still need to get my vibrant up to 2.2 with Mini Kies but im hoping that we'll get this update as well.

How about:

1.) The Desire HD (and also, you think it could get the 3.0 update?)
2.) The regular Desire

Isn't it strange that only the Sony arc was announced to ship with GB? Even the Bionic is only showing froyo with a 2nd qtr release

Is anyone still questioning why Google is releasing these updates so quickly? As soon as Gingerbread and the Nexus S were announced they just instantly started talking about the Xoom and Android 3.0(Honeycomb). Then we got word of Ice Cream, and still not one person even knows if Honeycomb is tablet only, there isn't even a release date for Honeycomb or anything, because maybe Honeycomb is just software for tablets in the coming months.

Google at their event today said Honeycomb will be coming to Phones in some fashion, so we do know it's not just tablet only.

The tipping point for me buying my Evo over the epic was updates. I feel sorry for the folks that bought the epic and are still waiting for Froyo but hoping for Gingerbread. Sprint has received Froyo for the Epic but it didnt pass their tests the last time I checked. In a nutshell Im glad I went with the Evo. Sprint seems to have a better relationship with HTC

Reminds me of a headless chicken running around.
I bought a Nexus One for $600 because they promised immediate updates to the OS ... so far I got bollocks in return.
