What do I do to get a wired selfie stick to work on my G4??

My neighbor gave us a wired selfie stick you plug into the phone's volume jack. However, the shutter button won't activate the phone's camera shutter. Volume up or down button takes a photo just fine. Tried installing camera 360, but no change.
Any ideas?

No luck. Volume control works as a shutter just fine when I'm hand holding the camera, juust not with the selfie stick button .

The rubber button on the grip may have twisted away from the mechanical button underneath. Look for another slight bump on the handle and see if it clicks when depressed. if that works just twist the rubber grip so the two buttons are aligned again.
