What Do People Have Against MotoBlur?

I'm not particularly fond of blur but I do like somethings about it i.e the sizable widgets. I would rather just run stock android or a custom ROM. But I am interested in what moto comes out with for future blur-ness. Everyone always jumps (including myself) to hat blur and say how bad it is. It might be the case but its still evolving and I would say that its pretty rare for a corporation to get something right the first time to make everyone happy.

Blur wont make anyone happy. Except "US" I think if sense can be that "cool" with a dock like that, anyone can. Apple vs HTC vs Motorola...that is about it these days.....

Moto always seemed a bit "awkard" when it comes to interfaces...back in the day everybody complained about Moto's UI on their Verizon phones, before Verizon "standardized" them. I've never used Blur yet so I will reserve judgement until I see the Bionic in action.

Hey guys,

I'm kinda a noob when it comes to Android. My phone plan is almost up (Verizon) and I can't decide between the Thunderbolt and Bionic, like a lot of people on here. I'm leaning toward the TBolt because of the praise I've heard about Sense. However, I'm wondering what's so bad about Blur that I keep hearing complaints about? I know it has something to do with the notification bar or something but idk.

Thanks,
Actually I like others wondered this myself and it DOES have to be a personal choice and i have to agree with bk below with his answer to you.
Brian
Actually like most I wondered the same thing and the answer given by
I would encourage you to make your own opinion about sense vs blur. Everyone has an opinion on this and everyone's answer is right for THEM, not necisarrily you. Go into a store and check out an incredible next to a droid x and play with both for about 10 minutes a piece or so. Really put it through it's paces. Add stuff to the screens, move stuff around, look at all the widgets available. Which one feels more usable to YOU. Then make your choice...

Actually this is a very good answer non biased and to the point. I am waiting until March for my upgrade or until both the tbolt and Bionic are out and will just as recommened and go from there. Thank you for your answer.

Guess to eaches own I love motorola's build quality but I won't say blur is good. Oh and sense is not near as choppy and slow as blur. My d1 running sense clickedclocked at 1.0 was faster than my d2 out of the box

In getting ready to use my VZW upgrade next month and I hope I don't get flamed here but is Launcher Pro an app that you purchase from the Android app store and install on your chosen device?

Just want to make sure I know what to do.

BTW is there already a thread 101 sorta thing on what to do and not to do when you get a brand new Droid having never had one before?

For those still complaining this is what P3droid tweeted over the weekend. And it is talking about the blur that is in gingerbread for the X.

" If this Blur was the OG blur, no one would have complained about Blur...why moto, why did you wait soo long for this."

Yes it is. Launcher Pro is a home replacement app and you can install it on any Android device (some of it's features though might not work on lower-end phones). There's a free version and a paid version in the Market.

And no one is going to flame you for asking. If they do, I'll make sure I nuke em! ;)

Blur was a big improvement on the DX compared to previous devices and is suppose to be an even bigger improvement on the Bionic. I have no problem with it and I'm looking forward to see what they did for the Bionic.

My Droid World is on the verge of leaking a 2.3 version of the new Blur for the Droid X.

Which according to some people in another thread, is not possible. Since you're supposedly stuck with whatever Motorola gives you because its so "locked down" lol

Thanks for the advice Chris so then if I am considering the higher end, leaning heavy to Bionic for various reasons and tbolt a close second then I would assume that these would be ok? secondly can you give me a brief idea of what Launcher Pro does... Free or paid version to replace what is already native to the device?

Thank you and I appreciate the flame comment. I come here to learn and give what i know as well.

Edit: I spoke to soon and followed your link and just reviewed what Launcher Pro is all about. I can see that that is a must have and you can dl this w/o rooting?

Yep, you should have no problem using it on either phone. In essence, the paid version allows you to use some of the custom widgets that come with LP (there are some good social networking and news feed widgets), but other than that the Free version has all of the same functionality.

LauncherPro just replaces the phones launcher with one you can customize. The launcher is the row of buttons at the bottom of the screen used to launch programs or the app drawer. Like the black bar at the bottom of HTC's Sense, or the three white buttons on Blur.

LLP got a mild update 10 days ago. Check out the screen transition animations! Can't wait for the "real" update! Motoblur is OK. Nothing to hate.

:excited: :D

But chalk me under 'prefers *Droid*Blur'. I've played with the Droid X, Sense devices, and a Sense ROM on my D1 and I personally prefer the Blur on the DX to Sense. Although right now, I prefer stock over both. If the new DroidBlur is really good and doesn't get in my way, I'll stick with it. If it annoys me, I'll flash a stock ROM. I'm pretty certain I'll have both options, so Blur doesn't affect the inevitability of it being my next purchase. Though the idea of it getting even better (Kellex of Droid Life said the new Blur could even compete with Sense; it already did in my opinion, but I know it only means good things going forward) is definitely a plus.

Can any one with a Bionic comment? Ha ha ha....

Now keep in mind I have no experience with owning an Android phone right now but soon to be next month, I was however as I have posted before this given an opportunity by a friend who is an exec with Motorola a week with a prototype Bionic and except for one time locking up on a startup I was very impressed how the UI looked, reacted and what I was able to do. I liked it very much before I had to give it back.

He would not give me much else as far as info but assured me that on launch this WOULD BE the BEST ever of the Motorola line of Android phones and the Moto went to great lenghts on this one to make it a great device. This is where I am leaning at this point unless tbolt blows me away.

How not if it's a motorola build with signed bootloader and kernel it should work but I've also heard they can get gb to boot on our current kernel which would help alot with this blur

From what I've read, there is a developer/tester DX, and a consumer DX. The GB ROM is from the dev DX, and it's 'protected' from being able to run on consumer DXs.

Which makes me wonder, do these special dev DXs have unlockable bootloaders? If so, I'd love to get my hands on one...

Blur is not as smoother as LP. Also I like the ability to pinch screen preview and 5 docks on the bottom is enough for me and custom dock icons is a plus.

The free version was good enough for me but paid to just pretty much donate for a great job.
