What do you love/hate about your Note 5 so far compared to your previous device?

Looks like I am following your lead....Ha

Im coming from the s6 Active as well and just got home from Best Buy with it and it's on the charger right now since it was at 20% at the store.

I have had the Notes before (1-3) and liked them a lot.

I haven't set it up yet but will in a few minutes.

What do I like more about it.
1) More internal memory I got the 64 gig model
2) The display. My Active was frigging awesome, but pales by comparison on all 4 modes
3) The s-pen. I didn't use it all the time before, but so far the new one is a lot better from the other ones I used. Quick note on the lock screen is pretty cool too

My worries.
1) Battery life. The Active was the best I ever had.... Period
2) No waterproofing. Big worry for my job.
3) Loudness...

1 may not be a big deal but #2 is a very big deal and #3 I have to really explore and test to see just how well it does or doesn't do.

I was going to wait until I knew for sure if the Active version of the note was coming out, but my son wanted my Active since I had already seen how solid a phone it was, and took it over and I came home with the n5 on his upgrade. The icing on the cake was doing this at Best Buy and getting not only a $200 gift card, but since I bought 3 accessories got a additional & 45 dollar gift card to boot. So all in all it was a great deal on a new phone for me.

I am still ticked about not having a removable SD card and hopefully that will be addressed with a similar case that came out for the s6, but in the mean time I still have my micro USB drive that I can utilize. I got the 64 gig one so that should work for the most part right now.

For better or worse I'm in now so we go from here.

Looking forward to your thoughts on battery life comparison to the S6 Active

I came from the Note 4 and am still on the fence about returning the Note 5 and going back
The main issues are the removal of the menu bottom
Yeah I know you can long press on the back button but that doesn't work
Yes I use some old free apps
They also removed some cool features of TouchWiz
Which are not deal breakers but it kind of sucks knowing I could do them

I don't l like the jack port on bottom instead of top

Battery life has not been good

The screen is very slightly better
Fits hand better
I like the themes but I could always trick out my notes with launchers anyway
Finger print sensor is superior

Had mine just over 24 hours now, battery life is a little better with heavy use than my Note 4. After 12 hrs down to 30 % left. Not a fan of the headphone jack on the bottom. Love the note taking feature with the screen off. Screen seems a little sharper text and icons smaller. Camera is snappier. Glass is a huge fingerprint magnet getting case this coming week - the s view clear one from Samsung. Sound is iffy when compared to the Note 4 but ok. I upgrade every year and was leary of no sd card but getting used to not having it with 64gb, used about half of my 32gb internal and 32gb sd card in the 4. Will just get a 128gb next Summer so not a big deal. Everyone who has seen it so far says more premium looking that my 4, looks smaller and feels thinner with less bezel. More streamlined. Overall I don't miss my Note 4 much now. Seems like a worthy upgrade.

You can't customize the battery saving mode, you used to be able to just have a black and white screen
The got rid of the stock calendar agenda widget and flashlight widget
Made it harder to search apps
Bluetooth cannot keep your device hidden to other devices while paired
Removed a lot of the little customizations within the settings

You didnt ask me but I'm getting the same battery life as I did with the s6 active.

Stop the cleaning out the task manager as soon as you can, Android really runs better with some RAM on board, unlike windows.

My Note 4 was a bit too heavy and a little wide. After a long day of using the Note 4, my hair day would ache.

The N5 is much lighter and not as wide. From what I read, I think the N5 actually weighs more than the N4, but it seems the weight is distributed better so it seems much lighter when holding it.

About a day of pretty heavy usage with everything on and syncing with the screen at 50%(which isn't the best indicator ) 4.5 hours screen time on 18.5 hours actual usage down to 15% from full 1st time charge turned off and put on the charger.

So far, my initial impressions are very favorable. Slightly better than the Active on its first day.

#3 worry on my list is no longer a worry. On my AT&T version this phone is even louder than the Active. I watched a few YouTube videos and took a few calls and I am exceedingly happy to report that.

You can add a flashlight shortcut in the notification tray. Open notification tray, click pencil icon, reorder to your delight.

I had the Note 3, 4 and now the 5 I'm not as excited to have the 5 as I was when I got the 4 but that is because of how bad my Note3 was after the update to 4.4....

Anyway, I like the new S pen features but miss some of the old functionality of the screen write option, like being able to crop right after clicking screen write.

The app drawer on the Note4 allowed me to create folders and hide apps that I didn't want to uninstall, can't do either on the Note 5.

I love the new camera, and it's features as well as the improved fingerprint scanner...

The Note 5 is smooth, fast and has absolutely no lag, my Note 4 was great until lollipop ruined it...then it became laggy, and slow to open the gallery.

I love the "live" calender and clock widgets Note 4 didn't have this...

I miss the left soft key long press for menu options, but someone here found a workaround so I will check that out..

I love the pop out S pen, but with my spigen case I still have to dig it out with nails I don't have😑

But I am very happy with the Note 5...

Battery life may not be as good as when I first got the Note 4 but it's too early to tell...

I dont like that you dont have a choice to use a default app once or always. :(

I used the crop function in screen write also, so when you mentioned this I had to check it out. Just got the phone yesterday and still adjusting to it and setting up the little things here and there.

I found you can do the same thing by first using smart select instead of screen write and now you can write on the screen after selecting. It really works the same just backwards, if that makes sense.

Awesome I was looking at those too. I have a problem with cases I can't ever have enough. I had 12 for my Note 4 LOL. I have a few for work, a few for church and dates and of course a few Wonder Woman! I have one for work that is good because it has protection BUT it's not cute. I have a few others on the way and look forward to the next month or so when there are options

Yea I noticed that too, but it's not as accurate, but I can get used it....

I just got my Note 5 2 days ago and I have been playing with it non stop.

What I like about it:
1. Gorgeous screen, my eyes are sensitive and yes it is better than the Note 4's
2. The speaker may not be the best, but its definitely louder and placed in a better spot than on the Note 4. I can at least put my phone down on a flat surface and hear it now when I am watching videos. :)
3. The camera is just amazing!
4. This phone is FAST. I haven't had any slow down yet and I re downloaded everything. The speed of it is just amazing.
5. And yes, I like the way that it looks with the glass backing.

What I don't like so far:
1. Ok, why can I only type 160 characters in a text message...I mean wth Samsung? This did urk me to no end.
2. The screen is "denser" meaning that things are smaller. The google search bar is about the width of a pencil! Why so small Samsung?

That is it for now...

for #2:
change the grid size and they get bigger, right? Long press on a blank space on your home screen and choose grid size. I think when you go with a smaller grid, everything gets bigger.

This sucks :(

Aggressive background task killing demo from AP.

Well, that's not good. It looks better than what I get with my iPhone 6+, but I had hoped for more. The main reason I'm getting this phone is for the S Pen, which I know is not a killer feature for most, but for tech-savvy(ish) writers, it's invaluable.
