What is DTMF?

Re: what is DTMF

It's also called TouchTone (an AT&T trademark). It's the tones a phone makes when you press the buttons, or the tones a cellphone makes when you press the buttons after you're connected. (When you place a call on a landline phone, you're actually sending those tones to the central office. On a cellphone, you're not, you're sending numbers to the computer, because you're not connected to the carrier until after you tell it to call, so the initial messages between the phone and the tower include the phone number you want to call.)
