What is it about the Note?

Samsung gets some bad press for their software whether it be lag or slow updates. The s7 edge for example which showed such promise is actually quite tired now and performance isn't that great.

But people always seem to love the Note. Why is that? It seems to have an appeal even to stock android fans. They wouldn't touch a galaxy s series but would rush out and buy a note.

I'm intrigued about the note love and where it comes from. Coming 6 months after the s series phone, is it really always that much better? What is it that makes the note so appealing to you?

My next phone will be the Note 8, or the next pixel so I'm interested to understand the note love!

notes been out for awhile now if you haven't gotten it by now you won't . an you need to optimize you phone we still have a s7 in use even though me and my wife have the s8 and it's still holds it's own .

Re: what is it about the Note?

For me the note line has everything a phone can offer and then some. It is an absolute Beast of a phone

Re: what is it about the Note?

I've never given a damn about any of the S phones but I was ready to pull the trigger on the Note 7 until the Note 7 happened. I definitely like huge phones, I think the Note is the best of what Samsung is able to produce and I think that they do it in a way that will make me potentially not care about their horribad software and support lol. That said, I don't have a lot of interest in the Note 8. I'm REALLY hoping for some differentiation from the S line in more ways than "oh look, a pen!". Perhaps, bring back the flat screen, get rid of the glass body and add a little bulk to it to make it a workhorse. Something like that?

Re: what is it about the Note?

Have you ever spent good quality time with a note? Spent a day using the spen? Or a week?

I know people that still use their note 3 and 4 respectively. Most of us here probably came to the note originally for its screen size, and stuck with it because of the pen; once the direction of the phone changed with the new guy at Sammy.

I honestly don't know what to do on a smartphone without an spen besides make literal phone calls. My fingers are too chubby to get tge same experience of my spen. And if a game doesn't let me use it, im not playing it. The only game i play without is mobile legends lol.

I have guys at work who use their note to write locations down, or pallet counts..

Re: what is it about the Note?

My first foray into Samsung was the S2. While looking at YT videos I ran across a Note 3 video and I watched it. It was a rumor has it video b/c it wasn't released yet, but I was hooked. On release day I was 2nd in the sprint store. I've owned a Note ever since.

What got me was she SPen and it's separate functionality, definitely not just a stylus. Each year the Note has improved in some way. It has made itself worth its cost to me in convenience. Yes, it's a big screen but I can journal, jot quick notes, magnify, 1 click screen shot, scroll pages by hovering the pen tip just above the screen, preview links, send handwritten drawings and notes, write in my calendar, precisely edit, use it for gaming... The list keeps going. The SPen functions change from year to year, but I have never felt I may as well get an S series.

Re: what is it about the Note?

My first note was the 5- So I think it's never too late to jump in the game. Out of all the phones I have tried my top favorites were the Passport and the Note 5. I've even purchased the note 5 several times over- sure do hope S Notes is back on the 8.

The husband liked the note because at the time, it had the largest screen around- he was not interested in all about the S pen. Now, there are a lot of other options (Mate 8 and 9 are bigger) BUT I LOVE THAT PEN.

Re: what is it about the Note?

My husband and I have old eyes and when I read about the Note2 with a large display, we both pre-ordered one---and we totally loved it and did the same with the Note4 and then the Note7. We still use our Note 4s and I still use my Note2! When we had to return our Note7s we returned to our Note4s. Although we knew we would get the Note8 when it's released, we each got an S8+ last spring---and they are the pits (nothing at all like our Notes) so we are biting at the bit for the Note8 release :) Peeps say in these forums all the time that the Note is just an S series with a stylus---FICTION!!!

Samsung has good, quality products and I think their customer service is quite good; especially since the Note 8 fiasco. They usually give awesome specs to their Note devices; and of course it is a phablet, which is still pretty "in" right now.

Also, I think for some, it comes down to hype. This is the phone/phone line that's "in," and so that alone will trigger some buyers. They want the latest and greatest phablet.

Plus, Samsung is literally everywhere. They have the money (especially from their heavily-priced items like TV's and appliances) to give their phones great advertising, display units in every store; resulting in further brand awareness.

Re: what is it about the Note?

I simply put it this way:

With the Note, you don't just TALK - you actually do the ACTion!
You don't take STEPs - you LEAP!
You don't UPDATE - you INNOVATE!
Instead of CLOSED horizons - you're OPENing unlimited boundaries!
You're not a FOLLOWer - you're a LEADer.
It makes you make the IMPOSSIBLE - POSSIBLE!
There's nothing you CAN'T do - because you CAN do everything!
You don't look at the sky and think that the galaxy is BIG - because you're looking something beyond much BIGGER!
You don't THINK - you just DO it!

DO BIGGER THINGS, DO WHAT YOU CAN'T!

Wow, impressive... Samsung could use this to market the Note 8! 😁

Re: what is it about the Note?

I'm really tired of the whole Samsung phones slow down after a year. Even iPhones are accused of this. My Note 2 held up well in terms of speed for 3 years until it got wet. My Tab 4 is 3 years old and my only complaint about it is that the internal memory is too small. It's fast as the day it was acquired.

I still have to see the whole slows down after 6mos happen.

And honestly, If I wasn't in a hurry to replace my Note 2, and there was no $15/mo offer for the S7 Edge last year for me, I would have gotten another Note. Good thing I didn't but that's beside the point. The S7 Edge is great, but the missing SPen is something I look for.

Re: what is it about the Note?

the phrase 'the note is not an s series with a stylus' is interesting to me as now with s8 plus, the note design isn't going to be that different, apart from the dual cameras. so I wonder (apart from the s pen) whether the difference is still so great

to the dire hard note fans.. this question is ridiculous. it's okay if you don't get it.. we don't hold it against you if you don't understand why the note is so great.. just like apple people don't hold it against android people and vice versa..
