What is wrong with my Samsung S8? It keeps freezing up as soon as I start charging it.

About 2 weeks ago I noticed that all functionality of the phone would freeze about 5 seconds after I started charging it. I needed to hold down Power and Volume Down to reboot, but sure enough, it freezes next time I charge it.

I went ahead and reset / wiped the entire phone (back to factory settings) and it seemed to do the trick for 4 days. But it's back to freezing again.

Help! (I hope this isn't a hardware problem.)

It happens on various cables and various power sources- car, wall etc. Also happens in safe mode. It happened again today in the car, but then it reset BY ITSELF. After reseting and booting back up (by itself) it was fine while plugged in. (strange) I will be plugging in agian tonight so we can go from there.

Factory reset, or just a restart? From what you're describing, it sounds like it might be a problem with the port. Has there been any damage to that area, or water exposure? Is the phone still under warranty?

Not under warrenty. Never any water damage. Have handled with care since becoming owner. Any suggestions or ways I can clean something or am I doomed?

Try using a can of compressed air to blow out the USB port, and a small Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol to clean the contacts.

So I think (hope) I have solved the problem. After doing a complete factory reset (again) I very slowly started adding apps and customizing the phone day by day. But I left out one very important customization. I did not install or run Nova Launcher. I don't want to say something that's not true, but without the customization available through Nova, the phone has been running fast and fine. (I may not like how everything looks, but a working phone is better than a frozen phone.) So... so far, so good. Charging fine, not freezing and I'm going to keep Nova off the phone.

Thanks for the followup! That's surprising, since Nova isn't generally know for causing any performance glitches. But if it's not crucial for you, then I agree, keep it off. You may want to send feedback to TeslaCoil aobut your issues -- maybe they can investigate further.

I've been running smoothly now for 3 weeks. No freezing; no glitching Thanks for the help and a great website for people to get help.

That's great to hear! Did you send any feedback to TeslaCoil? This is the kind of thing they'd probably want to know about.
