i am using nova launcher great but sometimes lags and i was wondering which launcher would u use other then nova with your GN.

I'm also using Nova (free version). Tried both Apex and Nova (free version) for 2 weeks each. Ended up going with Nova as I found both lagged but Apex lagged more often for me.
I did find that if you are not unlocked or rooted the function to make the notification bar come and go via an icon placed on the home screen or if you choose to completely hide the notification bar via Nova/Apex settings, causes a glitch. Once you enable either one of those you won't be able to go into the stock SMS app via the icon. You can enter the app but it will display a black screen. This doesn't happen if your using a 3rd party SMS app like Handsent or Go SMS.
In speaking with the developer of Nova it seems to only happen when either not rooted or possibly only with ICS 4.0.2.
If I didn't mention it above this glitch happens with both launchers. Unsure if it has been fixed via an update for either launcher.

Stock. Tried Nova, wasn't a big fan. I occasionally have some redraw problems, but other than that I like it.

I used Nova for about a month. I paid for Nova. Then I tried Apex. They're very similar as they come from the base ICS code. However, I'm sticking with Apex as it has some features that I was looking for that Nova doesn't have.

I'd recommend stock. They finally made it so good I've never given the thought of putting another launcher on.

For free launchers, I think Apex > Nova. It has gestures (free) whereas Nova does not.

For paid, I'm loving Nova Prime. So many options to really make it sing.

That being said, the stock launcher is the bee's knees too.

Nova paid is really the best,it may lag sometimes but not as bad as apex. Apex is laggy and glitchy. I've tried like 50 launchers for some reason the regulars like go launcher ex, and adw ex lag pretty bad on the nexus. So I found nova to lag the least.

I have yet to find a reason to switch from the stock launcher. I really like the way it works.

I tried out a couple launchers and found lag with both. Finally decided that using a launcher with lag just for a couple features wasn't worth it and happy with stock.

I'm with you on that..... really not a lot of benefits with 3rd party launcher for me.

is the android launcher still loaded up in main memory until it is kicked out for other processes? In essence, when you use a third party launcher are there times when you are running two launchers and creating more resource overhead?

Based on several recommendations in this thread I installed Apex. Nice. Allowing more apps per home screen is the feature I like best so far.

Lag in a launcher drives me nuts, but I need gestures, swipable docks, and 5 columns.

Which is the best for performance on the Nexus?

I'm using Nova (the free one) and notice no lag at all. Maybe that's from the ROM I'm running (axiom), or maybe I choose not to see it. Whatever the reason, it works perfectly for me. My favorite aspect of Nova is that it will backup/restore home screens, which is a huge time saver if you enjoy flashing ROMs. Maybe apex or others do this as well, but that would mean setting up all my screens from scratch again, and I don't want to do it.
