what legitimate defense does HTC have for putting MicroSD card slot in the One for just one country?

Only lte phone currently in the USA that can use every carrier well except sprint is the iphone5. Next would be HTC one bought directly from HTC but that u can only us on tmo & att lte no vzw. My guess this time next year vzw will have VOLTE and that will make it easier to have a multi carrier phone
Wait so what currently released phone can I use on every carrier right now?

Pretty sure you can't use a Verizon iPhone 5 on AT&T's LTE.

There are three iPhone 5 models (bands) in the US.

1) You DO realize that that unlocked DE still can't be used on just any carrier, right?
I do, but since I'm on a gsm carrier I don't really care about any others.

2) Don't tell me what to do. I don't work for you, you are not my boss, so no..you don't get to tell me to "move along". I will continue to ask and ask and push and push for the device I want. (no device at present meets my needs really). And I will continue to question people's assumptions on things and people like me will continue pushing compaines to make better devices which will benefit everyone. Whether you like that or not.
Ok commander.

Relax, tough guy. You're not pushing any OEM to sacrifice the build quality of their devices or their billion dollar partnerships just to make your dream device. If you still need a micro sd card in your phone, get the SGS4. Nobody's mocking you for that. We are questioning your grasp on reality if you think you're ever going to get everything you want. Nobody gets that. Everyone has to compromise on everything everyday. When you're older, you'll understand that.

Older? LOL....oh man. You"re funny. If you only knew. You have yet to make the case for why I can't have what I want. I don't think it's unreasonable to want enough wiggle room for my stuff AND have low light performance in a nice package. For some reason you think that's impossible. In the world of tech manufacturing, things are only impossible, until someone does them. It's ironic, cause I feel like HTC actually has built that device, just their limiting it to AT&T and GSM. It will be interesting to see if at changes in the future.

That"s pretty clear.

You're trolling a forum using a topic that's been discussed ad nauseum for a phone you have no intention of buying. Move along.

What do you mean Android doesn't support it? You mean Google discouraging it? I don't know that I consider that a legitimate reason but I would love to hear what other ones that you think there are. As for Google, I don't know why that should be a concern to an end user who needs more storage. It's not like companies cannot still make devices with microSD cards in them. Including last year's best selling Android device. With that many sold, and the Note having one, and this year's S4, that's a WHOLE lot of devices. So your comment is puzzling. There are plenty of legitimate reasons for wanting more storage too. For us people on Sprint, cloud storage for movies, photos, music, whatever isn't a very good option as their network is very poor. I am hoping the switch to LTE fixes that issue, but that's going to take years to build out so who knows what things will end up looking like. In the here and now though, streaming things is NOT an option. Been there, tried it, didn't work. So that means either liimiting myself to a small subset of my collection, or use a device with additional storage. It really makes a difference.

Additionally, not all people in the world have unlimited data plans. So for those people, local storage is incredibly important. I honestly do not know why you would want to purposely limit your storage options. There could have been a nice little spring loaded slot which wouldn't have ruined the look at all. Instead we get limitations. Why?

What is unclear about 'android doesn't support it'? The code to support as cards does not exist in android. Google removed it. Any time you see a device that has it, it's because the manufacturer added it themselves, often in a substandard implementation that has the nasty side effect of destroying system stability and damaging other hardware elements.

There is a reason android no longer supports it, and that isn't going to change.

I love how people are saying "It's part of Google's specs" as a defense when clearly HTC doesn't give two sh*ts about Google's specs. See, for example, the One's buttons.

I don't think its inexcusable to not have a MicroSD slot. I think it's inexcusable to sell higher-capacity phones as an exclusive if you're not going to offer a MicroSD slot. That's the real problem.

Or some customers would like a more seamless handset and don't need them? I'd rather the cost and space was used for something else.

wait... isn't HTC the one abiding by Google's new standard for Android's buttons? I think I read something about Android only having two buttons now (home and back), except that Samsung and most other manufacturers aren't complying with it yet.

Nope. Android standard is three on-screen buttons.

Wait a minute......"scratches head" you say that HTC doesn't give a sxxt about Google specs....
I guess Google didn't trust HTC to make the first android phone ever on t mobile or wait I know Google didn't trust HTC to make the first nexus......
I think HTC helped Google define some of the specs so how would they not respect them?

That's not the Android standard. Those guidelines are actually published.

...the Nexus isn't Android standard? Then what's the point of the Nexus line?
Android standard (as in, the recommended implementation) is on-screen buttons. The guidelines are the bare minimum, as you alluded to in discussing the menu button.

Edit: if we're quibbling about semantic meaning of "standard" that's pretty boring. But lord knows the internet loves playing gotcha.

10-4. Thought you meant you had read something stating there should be 3 buttons. I've been looking for something along those lines for a few days now.

Yeah, it is curious. I did some quick googling and I don't see anything clearly spelled out.

In any case, yeah, MicroSD sucks. Selling the 64gb model as an exclusive sucks even more.
