What ? material design 2

Seems like I'm the only one who really likes the new looks. I am not a big fan of Google's dark mode. The blue and black is, off to me. I know black is better for battery but I really like the clean white look. Maybe I'm crazy.
Don't think you're crazy. I prefer dark theme but I do like the clean white as well.

I'm with you, I also really enjoy the white :)

I'm not a big fan of the dark either as I agree the colors don't seem to flow well with the black. I turned it off in my phone settings. I actually don't mind the clean white but I think there's just to much white now. Something is needed to break it up. Calendar alerts are just weird to look at now and there is no visual reference point of color. Maybe I'm just being lazy because now I have to read more of it lol. Same thing with messages. IDK, it just seems very plain and bland to me.

Dark mode is coming BACK

Fixed it for you!

Lollipop brought the glaringly hideous white backgrounds to everything! This was the main thing that got me into rooting phones, so I could make them look how I like!

Yeah I don't get the fascination with all white, it needs some color to break it up.

Not only that, all of that white wastes battery and hurts the eyes!

I switched back to Android messages while at work today so I could use messages on the web because that's the one thing textra does not do.

Good grief, white and half transparent light blue. It looks just awful.

Agreed. So why not use Dark Mode?

I use Dark Mode for Android Messages on my Pixel 2 XL and when I use Text Messaging for Chrome on my PC I also get Dark Mode, exactly mirroring Dark Mode on my phone.

Have you tried setting Dark Mode for Android Messages?

There is an app called SendLeap that has a web app, windows app, mac app and even Linux app. They work together using a master password that does the same as messages for web. Works with any sms app you use. I am using it with Textra.

I was using the web app until yesterday when I installed the Linux app on my Pixelbook. Works flawlessly.

Yeah I have. It's just gray instead of white. There's still no way to set colors to each conversation anymore which was one of the things I loved about AM. To me it's just such a simple way to have a nice visual reference of who I'm talking to. If it's dark pink it's my wife, turquoise is my kid, black is work and so on. I've started typing in the wrong conversation a couple times since they did this to AM.

I actually like using day and night mode on textra so I get both light and dark. I'm honestly fine with it the only thing textra is missing is messages on the web as it has far more features and options than AM anyway. I just really enjoyed the simplicity of AM and being able to set a color to a conversation was one of the subtle touches that I like but textra has that. I just hate this whole design style.

I have avoided updating the app because of reports like yours.

On MD2, I didn't like it at first either. Just so much blinding white everywhere. But as it makes it's way throughout the ecosystem, I'm starting to be okay with it. Still don't absolutely love it, but the design philosophy is beginning to make sense a bit more.

At this point though, if they're going this direction, they need to go all the way and just be heavy handed with it. Update the Play store, Google Play Music, Keep Notes, etc.. and all of it more sooner than later.
