What phone will you be switching from?

What kind of phone are you swapping out for the Nexus S 4G?

Palm Pre

I feel like I've given HP long enough. I'm tired of not having all the great apps that iOS and Android have.
My thoughts exactly, I am to the point now that I don't even care what HPalm does anymore. It is to late

Add me to the Palm Pre defectors. I have a launch Pre that I actually tried to get rid of a month ago. I purchased the Epic and thats when I heard that the Nexus S was dropping with 4G on Sprint... so I returned it. Can't wait til launch!

I am switching from a palm pre. I love webOS, but I am tired of compromising when it comes to hardware. I want a 4" phone.

Trading in the Evo. I'll be losing the microSD slot and HDMI, but I my current card is 16GB, and I've never used the HDMI port (though I probably would have if CM7 supported it).

I prefer the build quality of the Evo, but prefer the design, weight, and Google updates even more.

Actually CM7 does support the HDMI port. You just have to use either of the apps on the market. Only downside is that the audio can only play through the phones speaker on AOSP ROMS on FullHDMI. The one from teamwin I thinks supports audio to the tv on either type of ROM. :-)

Anyway, I'll be billing the account so I can have time to make sure I have the cash. Can't wait!!!

Palm Pre, cant take the wait any longer and the App store is lacking. May go back to HP if they get more going but until then I am pretty sure I will like my Nexus S.

I agree with you 100%. Nevertheless you should read about both phones (Epic & Nexus S) before making your final desicion. I have my Epic rooted, running on ext4 files like Nexus S will have. plus, I have keyboard and a lot devs working on Epic new roms every day. The big difference is that Epic is running on FRoyo and Nexus will be running on Gingerbread. After that it will have the same processor, the same 4 inches screen. If you really want something new you should wait on the Evo 3D or the Motorola Atrix that will be coming soon to the Now Network.

I would get Nexus if it had keyboard and I did have my epic already. Now I love my epic. I do not think I will get another smartphone any time soon!!!

I don't really understand why one would try to talk people out of switching to the Nexus in a "What will you be switching from" thread. This is not "should I switch" thread. The simple fact is, the Nexus is going to be an amazing phone, and a lot of people, myself included, will prefer it over the epic.

No doubt, the epic is a great phone. My wife ordered it and will get it on Monday, and I picked it out for her.

I could not deal with the bulkiness of the epic, myself. Plus I don't want to have to root my phone to have stock gengerbread. Not to mention that awesome curved screen on the Nexus. Yep, the Nexus is the phone for me, not the Epic...
or the Evo 3D (battery life)...
or the Atrix (Don't like Motorola's UI, netbook mode semes like gimmick)...

I agree with you. Sprint is moving forward by getting Nexus S. I would love to get this phone as well. however, if I were you I would root it, so you would be able to get free tethering to your pc. I don't have to pay $30 for tethering. I am able to use my pc almost everywhere.
Go Nexus S :) !!!!

No, that's one thing PDAnet uses as a selling point, no root required. I heard though that Sprint had blocked apps like PDAnet, not sure about that though. Honestly, I've used Wireless Tether since I first rooted and haven't had one problem with it. Plus it's completely free. :-)

thanks- i guess i'll have to learn how to root! is it difficult?

No, go to Sprint Samsung Epic 4g section and post a coment there . I am certain that Rag and Paul will help you to understand more about rooting your phone.
Also welcome to the rooted world in advance :) !!!

I do not know either if Sprint has blocked PDAnet app. What I know is that Sprint will try to make money as much as they can.

Actually, I would recommend looking at the T-Mobile Nexus S forum - the rooting procedure should be similar, but no way to know for sure until someone gets their hands on this thing.
