What the Bionic really is?!?!

Like most of you I have been eagerly awaiting ICS and have been searching for the answer to the question everyone want to know. In my daily visit to Motorola's Forum I read this today:

Quoting an Authorized Premium VZW reseller "the Bionic was quickly introduced, discovered to be pieces of **** by Verizon, and then subsequently whored out on the internet sites for cheap/free with 2 year contracts until the stock was gone. The Bionic is really nothing more than the "beta" version of the Droid RAZR, which is why stores carried it for a very short period of time."

Am I the only person taken back by this? I have read similar comments like this before, but nothing this blatantly candid. To say I was shocked or offended would be an overstatement, but I definitely feel slighted if this is true.

I don't know if it's true, but I'll take my "Beta Razr" over the actual Razr any day. I even forked over the re-stock fee to get out of that phone a week after I got it and considered it a good deal!

People have been saying this about the Bionic since it came out. If it was a Beta, it was the best beta experiment i ever was a part of. I'm glad I got my Razr Maxx, but it wasn't because the Bionic ever let me down. I loved it.

Bionic was a POS before ICS .232. Now it's a great phone. At least, mine is.

Oh, and what about how quickly the Razr Maxx and now the HD are coming out. So I guess the Razr is just another beta? Lol

First Bionic is not a beta.. its development track is a long one. The hardware is pretty solid save for the camera and intermittent data connection issues(which if u research a little you'll find many phone are having?). The reason it came and left so quickly is due to the redesign that took place which cause the Bionic to release late. It's been a fairly solid and quick phone for the most part. However all that being said it is far past due an ICS update. Now I can't confirm this but a source tells me that the reason ICS is delayed is because Verizon and Motorola can't come to an agreement on bloatware.

I think everyone fails to realize ALL phones have their share of problems. Yes the bionic does have its issues, but so does the iphone 4s, droid razr and what not. The other day my girlfriend was watching me use my bionic and she goes, "wow your phone is fast". This is coming from somebody who has an iphone 4s. I think complaining about your phone is kinda like the whole grass being greener on the other side thing. No phone goes without its issues.

This is nothing new, just look around this forum and you'll see countless accusations, hypothesis, "rumored facts," unnamed resource quotes from "those who know," and a host of other absurdities. And, as someone else here posted, there is not a phone made that does not have its detractors. Read in any device forum and you will find plenty who love it right alongside plenty who say "this phone is crap." I pay no attention to any of those posts.

We will never know why the Bionic got such short shrift. I know I was curious about the Razr Maxx and found there were things about it I liked. I also found the so called "Super" AMOLED screen putrid and a deal breaker for me. I've never seen one I like yet (though there are again rumors that the new line of Razrs have again improved upon the screen, so the jury is once again, still out until I can do side-by-side comparisons.) The bottom line is, and the most important line, do *I* like the phone? The answer is a resounding yes and I don't need .232 for that. I am running stock and have no problems with it at all. Yeah, the camera could certainly be better (this, coming from a professional photographer, lol) but if I have to depend on my phone camera to make a living, I'm in serious trouble. It works for a quick snapshot when I'm not packing my regular gear and that's all I care about. I don't care how many megapixels next gen phone cams have, they will never compare to a lower megapixel pro, or even pro-sumer camera, so what's the point of worrying?

You will always find quotes from "reliable sources" that fly in the face of what others are reporting or even common sense. Pay them no heed. Be SECURE with your own beliefs and needs or you will never be happy!

P.S. I should have addressed your thread title: "What the Bionic Really Is?" The Bionic is an excellent phone that has met the needs (and then some) of many, that is still, to this day, current and relevant. It is not "top of the line" but I have not seen anything out there yet that I'd prefer to have, regardless of cost, even if it were free. It is the best phone for me. That is what the Bionic "really is."

The best camera is ALWAYS the one you have on you at the time.

We know why the Bionic got shafted. Delayed because of Tegra and LTE. Switched over to a new chassis and platform so close to the timeline of the DROID RAZR. Instead of cancelling the Bionic, they continued. A few months later, out came the RAZR, the rebirth of such an iconic brand.
