What will it take to get you interested in a Pixel 4/4XL?

365 dollar trade in value for my S10 plus ...... it's like they don't want me to get the Pixel and stay with Samsung

That's a dam shame. Samsung gave 600 for a Pixel 3 or 3XL towards an unlocked Note 10+.
You could probably get something similar for the S10+ towards the Note but that may not suit you.

no fingerprint scan, no deal for any reason. so to answer the original question, there is nothing that will get me interested in it because of that. need the fingerprint scan because I cannot remember passwords.

You have to use a password or pin on reboot on all devices and at random but maybe you mean something separate.

yep, something different. I use fingerprint to open a lot of different apps from banking to smarthome. and I use a fingerprint scan to open lastpass so it will auto fill login info for those sites that do not have that ability. just too convenient.

I have LastPass.... Now it's making sense. LastPass works great.

Folks are reporting that Google is only offering $265 for trade in of a P3XL. That sure seems low.

So the orange color is a "limited edition". I wonder just how limited as that's what I want but I'm not planning on preordering quite yet.

I'm a bit worried about this also. Google store is completely sold out of orange already, but Fi still has them available. I might buy on Fi since it won't be delivered until end of the month. Then I'll have 15 days to initiate return, plus 14 days to actually mail it, so that could get me to black friday to check the sales and make the call on returning or not.

FWIW on Google Canada only the Orange XL 128GB is sold out. All other orange variants are available for October 21st ship out.

Yep, gaps. This is what some of us have been pointing out here. Google should do better.

The Verge sums it up really well here, too: https://www.theverge.com/2019/10/15...-verizon-t-mobile-sprint-apple-iphone-samsung

Look, I pre-ordered myself a 4 XL. I'm an Android fan. But there's no denying that bad decisions are preventing the Pixel lineup from being the phone it could and should be.
I'm sure it's a great device despite some perceived short comings. I say perceived because we all have different expectations of what a top tier device should be. I didn't pre-order and I'm not even sure I'll get one at some point. Right now my answer is no to the pixel 4 XL specifically. Not because it's a bad device or not because I think it could be better. Simply because I'm pretty happy with what I have at the moment so I am not about to rock the boat. Without a doubt, I thought it should have included a wide camera but is it actually a deal-breaker? I'm still trying to sort that out.

Perceived or not, there are decisions Google could have made to eradicate any doubt. I'm not asking for Samsung-level spec-chasing. It doesn't have to be a Note 10. The Note 10 already serves that function and market, and serves it well.

The same thing happened last year with the Pixel 3 and the paltry 4GB of RAM that resulted in terrible RAM management issues during launch and even into the months after. 6GB of RAM could have easily helped prevent such an issue from being such a major sore point. Again, not asking for a crazy spec-chase. 6GB of RAM was pretty standard in 2018, both in mid-range and flagship models.

Now, with the Pixel 4, they're running the risk again with the battery size. I love the 90Hz refresh rate, but why pair that with such a small battery, especially in the smaller model? Why risk repeating another year of lackluster battery life, something the Pixel 3 models are notorious for.

Similar arguments can be made about storage options, probably pricing, and certainly, as you mention, the lack of a wide-angled lens. As MKBHD says, "gaps." Frustrating gaps...

Could Google have eliminated some of these gaps? Yes, I honestly think so. If I'm wrong, it means they can't compete, whatever those reasons may be. If I'm right, that means they don't want to compete. It feels like the latter to me.
