There is no reason for it to be any more expensive than it already is except as a cash grab by Google.

Other than it has more design features that cost more and because component costs have gone up again. Prices should be very similar to the S8+ and iPhone 7s+ MSRP.

Well I expect a 900 mile trip would drain the battery using maps and possibly music.I guess at the halfway point I can see if I can pug it in at the rest stop and charge it for half an hour. It just doesn't seem too efficient then. My current Nexus I plug in and don't have to stop till the end of the trip.

They make Bluetooth adapters that plug into a 3.5mm aux jack. There are quite a few on Amazon, some with great user reviews. I was going to suggest a USB C splitter, but there aren't any other than on eBay, and that usually means they're suspect. The first BT adapter that came up was around $24 and have a 4.5-5 star review. Might be something to check out.

I don't like the stripped down stock Android experience, prefer that Samsung and LG actually load their phones with features. So knowing it will be a bare bones android experience playing catch up to Samsung is enough for me to avoid it.

I get where you are coming form with Stock Android. I felt the same way for a long time. I had the Galaxy S4, S5, Note 4, Note 5, Note 7. But now I have the Pixel XL, and I am very very happy with the "stock" experience. It was a shock actually, because I had always found stock Android boring and somewhat lacking previously (5 years to get proper toggles in the notification shade? :-/) But now, it's pretty great I must say - to my surprise. It's faster than the recent Samsung phones I had, and I enjoy the experience I have to say.

As for the headphone jack, I hate that they are removing it, but it's not big deal. There are $4 USB c to 3.5mm adapters on Amazon. I bought a few already, and I'll keep them attached to my current headphones and I'll be all set. I don't like the move, but it's really no big deal to me ...

The great thing about stock android tho is I can have a mind of my own and get to install just what I want. Not interested in the pixel tho as long as my current devices continue to perform exceptionally well.

Agree to disagree. I get you feel it's lacking compared to Samsung feature set, I disagree on that front also. But I think we could agree that Google intentionally priced it at iPhone prices for the same options.

I swore I wouldn't like a phone that didn't do wireless charging, but after 4 or 5 in a row that did, I ended up with the Pixel XL and I honestly don't miss it much. I really thought I would, but not so much.

Now the lack of waterproofing on the other hand ...

I went from Sammy w wireless to LG V20 without. I much prefer the V20 for other things but do miss wireless a lot.

So wrong, tried a tempered glass protector with that phone have ya? How's that Bixby doing LOLOL? I think the curved screens are absolutely absurd and a huge marketing gimmick and the travesty Bixby is a waste and a hassle.

If my S7 wasn't humming along so good I'd buy the P2 in a heartbeat, Samsung's lost me, and I've been a loyal purchaser for a long time.

I will miss the Samsung browser though, not a fan of Chrome.

Anyway, back to the topic. If the camera somehow regresses, that might make me pass. I don't see that happening though, so I think it's likely I will be getting the XL.

With how a fair degree of the 2016 models' popularity beyond the 'traditional' Nexus-buyers was driven by the cameras' rave reviews, I can't imagine that Google would consider letting the quality backslide at all. I would expect them to at a minimum maintain the same sensor, and that they would be quite likely to update it to a newer one, and possibly add some new twists, perhaps OIS. Given that most of the resulting quality comes from the software, and that certainly shouldn't have regressed, we can conclude with a fair degree of certainty that at a minimum the 2017 models will produce results of similar, and quite likely superior, quality in comparison to those of 2016.
