I like how it resembles a Nexus 1, and has real metal on it, and it was...free

Edit: and dev community

Nice size, physical buttons, good battery life for a smartphone, stable software/hardware. Lastly... I got it for free and before the 10 premium data charge went into effect.

I like the fact that it has a screen. Oh, and makes calls. Really I think it's a pretty generic phone, (granted, my first android), but it's the super-devs that make it great.

I like the fact that its better then most phones for people that are on a budget, my phone is like 5x faster than my samsung transform...

I like this “free” introduction to the android universe -- reminds me of the old days when Win 3.1 ushered in amazing array of software that would save the world, then crash.

+1, well, except for the free part. Got antsy and didn't wait around for the free offers.

Sure, it may seem generic, but everything about it is done right. Especially when compared to lesser Android phones.

DITTO to all the above!

But - I lucked out and got 2 free since I have a family plan - just never activated
the 2nd phone yet - I'm keeping it as a backup - one of the original ones that came with V8

Things I like: Android, customizable, dev community, can do ANYTHING with this phone (i'm using it as a PS3 remote right now....)

I dont like the lack of a trackball :(

I like that this an actual smartphone running on Android! I came from a Palm Centro. :p

Ditto! Yup, I got mine free as well before the $10.00 premium data charge went into effect. :D This is the best entry level android phone.

I wanted a small-ish phone that was not running a skin on top of stock android that was affordable at full price (I don't like being stuck to contracts) and didn't qualify for the $10 add-on (at the time). This is that phone. That it is actually a decent phone with an active dev community is icing on the cake. My fear for the future of smartphones is that all the good phones come with 4.3" behemoth screens that impact pocketability. When I see people with the huge, crystal clear screens I do get a bit jealous, but my phone is in my pocket a lot more than it is in my hand.

Same here, this is my first Android phone as well :P

Personally I love the cheapness of this phone combined with how reliable it is. The development community doesn't hurt either.

Yea this my first smart phone and love it alot. The community is great. I'm surprised there is so much development for this phone which is great.

+2

My fiancee and I both had Centros before this (and I had some other PalmOS devices before that), we both got free Optimus S's and love them!
