whats the best keyboard for the thunderbolt?

I am having an issue with Smart and Swift. More often than not when using either keyboards, there is a hesitation/lag when typing the first letter regardless of which app I am in. The stock keyboard works fine.

It doesn't happen everytime. But it happens about 75% of the time.

Anybody else?

Yes yes and yes. I even notice it with gb keyboard but its noticeable less so I'm sticking with gb. I guess its loading the keyboard. just wish gb keyboard had a hide keyboard button, a calculator type numberpad and wish I could make the spacebar a little higher. Always hitting the bottom row instead of space. But I'm retraining myself and getting better :)

Been with Swiftkey for a while. I figured since I paid for it, I might as well use it and love it. Might try out the GB one though for future reference.

Better Keyboard

I've been using Better Keyboard with the Gingerbread Skin and it has been great. I tried Smart Keyboard but ended up going back to Better.

I'm glad I found this thread. I have been using Swiftkey for two weeks. It was a big step up from the stock keyboard but I could never go that fast. It was great at predicting my next word but I just want to type....I'd type a few letters, select word, type a few of the next word, select. Yes this saved me keystrokes but not time.
Just downloaded smartkey and it's a keeper. In landscape I can type like I did on my BB with two thumbs. The spacing between the keys is why this happens. If I could have two other BB like mods I'd be in heaven. Those being to hold the letter for Caps (instead of the alt) and have an alt key that acts like an alt key....
I like being able to go to numbers and symbols but I usually just need one symbol at a time. It's nice to be able to get and return to letters.

If I had to pick it is a tie right now between SlideIt Keyboard and SmartKeyboard Pro. I love SmartKeyboard pro because of the customizability and the touch it just is very natural to me. However, since I have used Swype, I love that and the best swyping keyboard I think is actually SlideIt Pro. It costs $6 on the market which is a lot for a keyboard but I used the trial version and it was great. Personally I think it works and is more accurate than swype.

Im really happy with the stock keyboard. Seems to meet my needs and I like the long press for the alternate chars.

I realized the smart keyboard has the spaces between the keys which really helps my accuracy and speed. In the settings I noticed it was the 'iphone' skin. Sure enough I go and borrow a friend's iphone and I was able to type decently well. The main 'issue' I'm having with the smart keyboard is the corrective text. It's really not that smart..... :)
Swiftkey did a good job of that, but I looked and it doesn't have an iphone skin.
I do like the options the smart keyboard has done. You can set the length of time the vibration on letter are shown or turn them off. The space bar is an optional showing.
I did notice the auto cap at the first of a sentence doesn't work in the browser window or forums....

I just wanted to let everyone know that I dowloaded the FlexT9 keyboard free at Amazon and I have to say that I love it. It looks kind of like the i*hone keyboard but the functionality of Swype with some additional stuff. It has a voice feature and a pen feature that work really well. I highly recommend this one.

I like and use Swift Key. I tried Swype, but it's just not intuitive to me, and I type so fast on a standard keyboard that I didn't see the point of Swype (for me).

I'm rocking the Gingerbread keyboard and I'm diggin it. Swype wasn't for me but my Dad swears by it.

I agree that I didn't like swype either but this keyboard also has a dictionary that shows up at the top of the keys like it does with the gingerbread...FlexT9 is really cool.

Was using SwiftKey for the last few weeks, but downloaded FlexT9 from Amazon yesterday when it was available for free. With SwiftKey I didn't had to type as much as it got pretty good at predicting the next word, but it didn't help with my input speed. After using FlexT9 the last two days, I'm definitely typing (swiping) more quickly. Looks like this is my new keyboard until I find something better.

On the tbolt I like the gingerbread keyboard the most because it looks really nice on its screen and its the fastest of all of the keyboards that I've tried. Search for the gingerbread keyboard on the market. It has bigger keys than the default gingerbread keyboard. Also for some reason the HTC keyboard lags on my phone making my typing slower

That's another one of the great things about the flex keyboard is that the keys are big and spaced out like the gingerbread...hehehehe ok I'm done selling the Flex keyboard.

I personally use Swype since I got spoiled by it with my Galaxy S... its nice to me, but I heartily agree that is it not for everyone. You try it and don't like it, then research some other options. The Gingerbread is a good option as well.

i came from the Samsung i760 mobile windows phone that had a slider. Now that i'm on android i had to try swype. It took a couple days to get used to it but know that i can type with a single finger or thumb it is very convenient. I agree with the dictionary issues...still building that up for my crazy verbiage.

I used FlexT9 for a while but switched to Swype beta, which I now prefer, on account of the editing layer (arrow keys and delete key are important!) and the ease of capitalization. Both seem to be pretty accurate when swyping; FlexT9 seems to be a bit more trainable (for some reason, on swype, "that's" always parses as "ghats" if I forgot to swype over the apostrophe).
