whats the best keyboard for the thunderbolt?

noob question - if I try out the swiftkey X Beta and decide to go back to stock, is it as easy as deleting the app?

will I need to change anything else back?

First I would long press on any selection field an hit input method and change it back to the stock version, and then I would uninstall it ... I haven't deleted any of my keyboards so I have no clue if it would just revert back to stock

The swiftkey keyboard was their first version ... the x beta is the newest version, you don't need both just the x if thats what you're after

smarter keyboard enter button

hey guys. this such a dumb question idk if this button exist on the smarter keyboard but I was wondering how press the enter button on smarter keyboard. I've been trying to go down to start a new paragraph but I can't find the button that does that. is there a combo of two special keys for it?

smarter keyboard? Smarter than who? LOL Kidding. I couldn't let that one pass by.

The smartphone keyboard differs with what you are typing on it for. If for a web browser (I use Dolphin HD, for example) there is a GO button. For sms and other chat you may either scroll upward to reveal the SEND button, or hit the Return/Back button on the phone to make the on-screen keyboard go away, thereby revealing the SEND button.

There is no 2-key combination or other trick. I either press the GO, or hit the Back button to make the onscreen keyboard disappear, but only press the Back/Return button once or you could lose all that you've typed.

I hope this helped.

Oh, and to start a new paragraph, press the key that has a line coming downward and then an arrow that points to the left. Pressing that button will bring you down one line per press, or twice for a new paragraph. Practice by compiling a new email to yourself. Press all the various keys to see what they do.

I've been using Flex T9. Works great for me. I do have one question though - how do you hide the keyboard? The OEM keyboard sometimes has a button to hide the keyboard with (say, if I'm searching a webpage and decide I don't need to type in a new URL), but Flex T9 doesn't have one at all. Am I missing something?

I have been using the Swiftkey beta and love it. It's amazing how sometimes I dont have to type any letters, I can just hit the words predicted on top. I like the black skin also, it looks better than the plain white. I've never used Flex so I cant say how good it is but Swiftkey X is great.

You swipe down on the keyboard to hide it.

So all in all I've been searching for the past two months to find the keyboard that suits me. I thought the stock was fine until I started to type fast and it couldn't keep up with me and lagged. Then I tried the swype for evo version. That worked great until it started to annoy me that it didn't have the voice to text feature. Then i tried the gingerbread keyboard, that too worked good until eventually it started lagging because it could not keep up with my typing speed. After feeling like I would never get a keyboard that could keep up, I noticed amazon was doing the free app of the day as the flext9 keyboard. Figured I'd give it a shot, worked great for about a week, loved the swipe ability as well as fast typing typing and voice input. That was until the past 24 hours where it has become a trainwreck with lag and inability to comprehend what I was typing, regrettably I had to part ways with it because it showed no signs of improvement after a reboot and some message house cleaning. I thought I was forever going to be angered by this problem of lag with virtual keyboards that struggled to keep up with my typing ... that is until just this morning. I noticed many sights touting on the front page the swiftkey x beta on the market for free. I looked it over and the most appealing thing I saw in the description was "improvements to the fluency engine" and I was sold on giving it a try. Well so far I can say that I've used this keyboard for about an hour and its been absolutely great so far. It doesn't have the swipe ability but has voice to text and most importantly its been able to keep up with my typing, and is doing a damn good job of auto correction I must say. Hopefully this keyboard is able to keep this up, because if it can and decides not to rear the ugly head of keyboard lag, I may have finally found a permanent keyboard for my phone.

Have you checked to be sure you don't have a full cache problem? Or something else slowing your phone. If not, maybe no keyboard can keep up with you. Perhaps you're one of those superfast "texters" in which case stock might be best for you. Or just stick with one and give it a chance to catch up to you as you grow.

I couldn't deal with the stock keyboard at all and got the Gingerbread keyboard from the market. It seems so much more intuitive and easy to get around on, I don't think I could ever go back.
@ FutureTBoltOwner...how do you choose between the Evo version of Swype. I had previously downloaded swype and then uninstalled. I tried installing again to choose the Evo version but it never gave me the option.

@Xhakarov...the only gingerbread keyboard on my android market is only for Android 2.3 and my HTC shows Android of 2.2.1. Can I still use this version on my Thunderbolt?

You can use the Gingerbread keyboard.

After you download the keyboards and install it, go to the Language section of your Settings and check the input box of the keyboard you want. Then long press on the input field of text box until a small popup window appear and you'll chose "input method". Then you know, select the keyboard choice that you've checked on earlier.

A friend of mine a TB and I was telling her about Swipe but when she goes to the market I don't see it. There a really allot of things that say swipe but they don't look right. What does the swipe app look like exactly? Its full name or the person who wrote it? Thanks for any help you can provide.

I really like SwiftKey. The predictive text works really well.

I've used FlexT9 in the past and it's pretty good as well if you want a swipe-type keyboard.

Both are available in the market.

I've been using Smart Keyboard Pro and really like it a lot. The feature to adjust the long press duration is worth it alone! Does the Gingerbread keyboard have that feature as well?

+1 for Smart Keyboard, this has been my pick for awhile...
