What's the difference? "My Magazine" vs "Flipboard"

Hey all,

I'm trying to figure out what the heck is the difference.

1. MY MAGAZINE - This one is accessed by pressing the home button while on the home screen. It says powered by flipboard, and automatically loads some content.

2. By default, the right "screen" has the flipboard widget installed. When you tap it, it loads up the actual flipboard app. It requires a sign in / sign up before it displays anything.

What's the difference between the two? They're both "flipboard" branded, but obviously different "apps". Seems redundant....

I only used Flipboard, but honestly ehh, I hate it! For News sources I go with RTNews, it's simple, and fast.

The biggest difference for me is "My Magazine" seems less customizable compared to Flipboard. With Flipboard I can choose say Engadget, Maker, etc, where as in My Magazine I get "Technology" under News with no way to edit sources.

Thx for the input! I think there's ways to edit the magazine app too, though. It's odd...

I agree it's very unintuitive, I don't see a way to edit the sources within a category at all honestly and I have played with it quite a bit as I use flipboard daily. You can, oddly enough enter your flipboard account info from within the app and jump into flipboard from there but its a convoluted process and offers no incentives over just using the regular flipboard app. I do like how My Magazine provides more info on the pages themselves tho. Hopefully this is a 1.0 app and it will be updated often to make it more personalized.

Do you know if there's a way to change what pressing the home button does while on the home screen? It's annoying to have it sometimes jump to magazine if I won't be using it. I'm a complete noob to android : ( Thx in advance!

There's no way to change it that I know of and still use Touch Wiz, if you use a different launcher then you can customize the button behavior. I did finally figure out how to add and remove individual sources from My Magazine, I'm gonna play around with it and see if it ends up better then just using Flipboard.

Ahh thx. Damn... maybe I should try and use it too. Wish the home-button-on-home-screen was customizable for S note or something

I do not want to mod but I will have to keep this phone. "My Magazine" is another half-baked, throw it in to make the features list longer app. Worse, you cant reassign the home button and I'm also missing the swipe from bottom of the screen for Google now, I have on my work phone (Maxx HD) Anyone figure out how to make Google now a swipe that yet?

Hi u can turn off the my magazine load when u push the home button, open the my magazine app, press the menu key to open setting, uncheck open using the home key, you can activate s-voice to load by doing the same steps but checking the box that opens when pressing the home key.
