Whats your actual SD card speed?

I just received a Lexar Micro SDHC 32 GB Class 10 I bought off Amazon. I tested the card with the supplied USB adapter in my PC. The card ran at the advertised speed 10MB/s write & 19MB/s read. When I put the card in my phone and test using SD tool I get 5.8MB/s write & 9.9MB/s read. I've tried formatting the card on both my PC and using the phone. I've tried file transfers from the PC to the phone and from the internal memory to the SD card. Is something wrong with the phone or the card?

I tried searching for SD card speeds with the Epic 4g Touch but couldn't find any posts. I'd like and perhaps others would like to see what people are getting for read/write speeds.

I have the exact same sd card as you in my phone, and I get similar read/write speeds. Unfortunately, it's not uncommon for Android phones to cap read/write speeds in the ROM, which I'm quite sure the stock ROM for our phone does. This is why many custom developed ROMs tweak those settings to get better speeds.

You're probably not seeing any replies here because your average forum goer here doesn't really care that much.

Those are probably normal speeds for the Epic Touch. I have a class 6 Adata micro SD that maxes out at 6MBs write speed on the Epic Touch but writes at 11MBs on my Motorola Photon. Toshiba class 4 micro sd, 4MBs on Epic Touch but 7MBs on the Photon. I am testing the speeds with the phone plug into the usb and actually dragging file (video type) from pc to phone. I also test it by using "sd card tester" app and "h2testw" from pc.

I am hesitant to buy any class 10 32GB memory until I am sure the Epic can take advantage of the speed.

i figured I'd offer to answer and provide some information for your question. I have an Amazon Basics Class 10 16GB Card that I picked up around Christmas time (fairly inexpensive and reviews seemed pretty positive). I've run two tests now using SD Tools from the Market. Both had a read speed around 7-8 MB/s and a write speed of 5.5-6.5 MB/s. Not sure how much it might matter in the test, but there is only about 2GB free on the card (Loaded it up with music).

I can't imagine my speeds are having a huge impact on my overall user experience, but I'd be curious what others think.

Sorry but its just no your phone. As been stated countless times countless post android os is good for class6. Any thing above that its not happening class10 is good for pc use only. Its not different on tablet side either. Every buys into the hype bigger is better well on sd cards class6 is the sweet spot. I could spend the whole night coping links from various forums about it but I'm to wasted to go looking.

Moosc while I have read plenty of articles regarding Class 6 being the "sweet spot" current crop of Android phones, I chose to spend $20 on my Class 10, 16GB card because I will be transferring music back and forth using my computer (able to utilize the full speeds). Additionally, it was only $20 bucks.

I do take some exception with the fact that you say people are "buying into the hype". At the end of the day Class 10 is a legitimate designation for a card with a particular read/write speed. Like anything, it may require the right set of circumstances to achieve that speed but its not like a Class 6 and Class 10 card are exactly the same in every circumstance. My Class 10 handled the original write of 6GB of music noticeable quicker than my old Class 4 card.

I have a SanDisk ultra 16gb. I took screen captures of the external memory and internal memory tests.
The screwy thing is the read speed is faster than the SanDisk maximum advertised read speed of 30mb/s

Must be a bug with the e4gt and that program. These results look much better.
