Used Textra when I had my note Note 3 as I liked the group MMS feature better on Textra at the time which is why I used it. Don't need it as much now.
For the S7E I have found the stock messaging app suffices.

Sorry to necro, but does anyone know if Textra encrypts SMS messages? Do I have to use Facebook Messenger with "Secret Conversations" on, or another data-based app? Thanks.

SMS can't be encrypted. Any app that uses encryption (whatsapp, Signal, etc..) encrypts via their proprietary system (meaning the other person has to have the same app). Signal CAN also send messages via SMS, but they warn you very clearly that any messages sent via SMS (meaning the other person doesn't have Signal) is not encrypted and you're on your own.

Textra it's great. Never had any issues and it's not as boring as the stock app I guess. I just like messing around with settings I guess, I'm constantly changing it just because I can

I use the stock..has a lot of options and works seamless now. If I had too I would switch to Handcent Next SMS as it's the next best option out there IMHO. Using stock with different themes has really sold me on samsung though.

It's Textra for me. Never any issues with it.
