OK I cracked my screen I should say the glass maybe 2 weeks or so after getting my Thunderbold. That was months ago! Now my phone won't charge and will some times just reboot and shows SD card removed every day. So took it to vzw the nice sales person giggled said yea looks like its a phone issue but you caused it!! Now I'm not Mr wizard but I know that cracked glass didn't cause the charging issue!

So my question, try and replace the glass myself so vzw will take care of the other problem or turn it into ins? I don't really want a new phone I'm happy with the thunderbold and never really minded that it was cracked but the other issues r driving me nut!! I also don't feel that I should pay for a problem I didn't cause when the phone is still under warranty..

Thanks for any advice and enjoy you holiday weekend!!

Thats why they offer insurance, once there is physical or water damage the warranty is VOID

I really hope you invested in insurance. Mine is only 5 bucks a month and a 50 deductible for a new phone. So worth it...

Better pull out the policy and start reading the fine print...
Note that there have been posts on this forum of people filing a claim and getting NEW devices, not Certified Like New Replacements.
Good luck to you and let us know the outcome.

In his original post he said that he did have insurance.

I don't see that in his post. I see "warranty", but not "insurance".

I'm suspecting if he had insurance this would be a no-brainer. Shell out the dough, get a new or at least hopefully well-refurbished phone.

Without insurance, this is going to get expensive. I'm going to assume he does not have insurance, because if he does there's no discssion at all - file a claim and be done with it.

My company's policy is that they will pay the ETF if we smash our phones and just sign up for a new contract with a new phone number. Once. Then it's our nickel from then on out. There are 200+ of us on them, so the insurance would be over $1000 a month. With a $350 ETF, three of us a month could break our phones and the company would be at break-even.

Given the cost of even a used Thunderbolt, the ETF does seem to be about the cheapest option unless a repair can be done inexpensively. That way, he at least ends up with a brandy-new phone of his choice for his $350.

He abbreviated it, "ins".

Thanks guys yea I have insurance... I was told the deductible is either 100 or 150... its just alot to spend to me with Christmas almost here and 3 children under 10 lol... but that looks like the option to go with.

One reason I personally would do this using insurance in a heartbeat is because I have seen in these forums TONS of times where someone repaired their own screen/LCD. The complete successes are probably in the 5 percent category. Most everyone runs into problems with the mechanics/glue/fitting, or something. Causing them to dislike the repair, or causing a failed repair, and still spending a (non-recoverable) $50->$80 or so, depending. That's why I say... Insurance! :)

You'll just have to sell one of the kids. That's all there is to it. :p

Seriously, you could drop $10 on a new battery and maybe get a $15-25 external charger to get some go-juice into it, and live like that for a while, but then you're looking at 1/4 the money of a replacement spent on a workaround.

Does it charge any better when plugged into a different charger or a USB port on the computer?

There's just no getting around it. At $100-150, the insurance deductible is the cheapest possible way to get a working phone, unless you wanted to buy a used phone of a much lesser pedigree (and that's not going to be MUCH less).

Consider yourself lucky that you spent the money on insurance.

I have ins on mine $85 deductible. I can upgrade in January, hope my screen will make it until then. Rather save the money for GN.

I read a recent post, can't remember which forum, but the op was able to contact HTC and HTC referred them to a repair facility. The op said the turn around time was about three weeks and that the phone looked good. I had asked what was repaired but I don't recall getting a response.
Personally, I would just go the insurance route. Good luck!!
