Whatsapp backup problem

I have the Backup Daily setting enabled in the Whatsapp app on my primary device (the phone with the SIM that my Whatsapp account is registered to). However it never works and I have to backup to Drive manually.

This is not specific to my primary device (S21 Fe) as the problem occurred when I used the Pixel 6a as my primary device

The connections are fine. I have tried with mobile and WiFi on literally dozens of different connections over the years. There is also plenty of Drive storage available. The app and Android version are current.

Any advice. This is a long-standing problem and Whatsapp Support is useless.
 
Is the app allowed to run in the background? Have you tried changing the frequency and see if that works? Also, if you have multiple accounts, I believe (may be wrong) Whatsapp only backs up the 'active' account (if you don't switch between accounts often during the day, this may be affecting the back up).

Thanks. I changed the battery settings to Unrestricted for the app. I want to leave the frequency on Daily as putting it on Weekly would delay knowing if it was working.

I am not sure what you mean by different accounts. I have Whatsapp registered to only one SIM but use the app on all my devices. The Chat Backup option is only available on the primary device.

Let's see if the Backup Daily works.
