Android Central Question

As contacts that are automatically synced with Google Account and can be found via browser, I would like to know where are the SMS messages stored online and how can someone access them from browser? I'm guessing that if someone changes device, the SMS messages will follow therefore somethere they should be saved. But I can't find where. Any idea? Thanks

Your SMS messages are stored only on your phone, in a hidden SQL database.

There are multiple apps available that will create backup files, usually in XML, that you can copy to your computer or a cloud service.

Some carriers have a web service that lets you see the messages using your web browser. However, this is not a backup as the messages expire and will be deleted from the web service after a few months usually.

And for those utilizing the SMS text messages backup feature in later versions of Android - that is stored in a protected area of your Drive account.
