Where did my keyboard go? Now offers only microphone input or edits.

No matter which screen or input box which used to offer a keyboard as primary input (mic optional) now forces me to make voice inputs only. No keyboard pops up. How do I restore the keyboard as the primary input interface?

Welcome to Android Central! Is a Driving Mode or Handsfree Mode turned on? Are you able to install another keyboard app and use that?
