Where would you get your Epic repaired?

Well first off, I don't have insurance for my phone. Looks like the little motor that makes the phone vibrate is either damaged or there is a severed connection to it. I believe I remember the sales guy at BB telling me that the phone comes with a 1 year manufacturers warranty. Would you guys send it to Samsung and probably wait 1, 2 or more months to get your phone back or would you chance it with Sprints tech service repair for a $35 fee? Are the repair guys at a Sprint store good with fixing these things?

Yeah, that's what I'm most likely going to do. I would send it to samsung if I knew I was getting it back quickly but the chance of that happening is highly unlikely! My concern is if sprint repair can do a good job without messing up my phone any more than it is.

I had a lemon on of a Samsung laptop, and they were decent about making quick warranty repairs. I have no idea what Samsung does for cellphone warranty repairs, but you might as well call and ask before you bring it to Sprint.

Do you have an old Sprint phone that you can activate on your account while you wait for Samsung to fix yours? If so, I'd probably go through Samsung. If not, I'd pay the $35 to get Sprint to fix it. Nobody else will fix your phone for only $35.

The comment about the sprint repair techs at the stores good at fixing these things, its only relevant to that particular store. Since not all techs are trained exactly the same, and not all stores hire the exact same tech. Some are better then others. I would ask if anybody on the board is near you and what store they might have had good/bad experiences with and go from there. It is always faster to go to a local store.
When i managed a service center for Nextel i had a customer come in with his phone in a plastic bag in pieces, he took it to a store with a crappy tech and after taking it apart refered him to come to my location. I was shocked they did that to him. But it happens.

Had my epic repaired by samsung and the process was fast and easy. They keep you updated on the status of the repair through their online ticket system. They paid for shipping both ways too. Turn around time was probably about 10 biz days. That includes 4 days of shipping time (ups 2nd day x's 2). Now sprint store is going to cost 35 but they take the wait time down to just 1or 2 days. I went the samsung route because everything about my phone was good so I didn't want to get someone elses refurb.

That's good to know! I don't use the vibrate feature much but id like to get it fixed before the warranty is up.

pretty sure if your phones less then a year old, even without insurance. sprint will replace it. prolly only a corporate store though

Yeah that would be great but do you know what they are replacing it with? It will more than likely be a refurbished phone. My phone works great! GPS is excellent and hardly any problems I hear others having with their phones. I just want my phones vibrate problem fixed. If I'm to get a replacement, I'd rather it be directly from the manufacturer.

hi u go to the sprint care center..call sprint to find one nearest to u...i use them anytime i have a problem...They are awesome the ppl i go to!!

Samsung is pretty quick. They pay 2 day UPS shipping both ways. Probably 3 days to fix. So maybe 8 days or so and you should have your phone back in your hands. I'm likely sending my Epic to them soon (for the 2nd time, different issue).

Do you have to call them or just fill out your request online?

Fareal if you dont mind me asking what were the 2 issues you had/ are having to cause you to send it into Samsung?

First issue was blown speaker on bottom back of phone, they replaced it. 2nd issue is that I've compared my phone to four other epics side by side and my device always has a worse signal strength than all four by at least 10dBm. Signal strength is on Settings _ About phone - Status. Causes me to not be able to connect the data service when I'm in an area that at best gets two maybe three bars of service, my phone is lucky to have 1 bar.

Those type of things happen. I am glad to see they at least handle repairs / warranty issues rapidly.
To bad we have to wait so long for OS updates. LOL

Hey Grooverite,

I work in a Authorized Service Center (Independent contractor basically), and the fix is pretty quick and simple to replace the vibrating motor. It's part of a back speaker assembly that we always keep in stock, and generally takes me about 15 minutes to pull the back piece off of the phone, pop it on and off, then screw the back panel back on.

I just tried to do some searching to see if I could find the replacement part, but I'm not able to find anything on google, so I'm not sure if anyone is selling them. But a good repair center should be able to handle it for the $35 repair fee, and if you want you can even add the insurance after you pay it.

Thanks for your feedback FenixOK! Good to know that its an easy procedure.

I may try out a Sprint repair store here in NYC. I'm in no rush to repair it though since I don't use it much. I just want it fixed eventually.
