Where's the FM radio?

There's a free and paid version both from the same developer.

Yeah- I tried both and they do not work on the G3. The developer says little chance of the better (paid) Spirit 2 working on G3. But thinks it may be possible with the original spirit 1. Need to monkey with some stuff and send him analytics. I'll bet AT&T disabled it at the kernel level. Hopefully the hardware/radio stuff is still in there.

I returned my first G3 and got a second one and never saw a questionnaire anywhere along the way.
I got onto AT&T Customer Service Chat, and conveyed my intense feelings about this issue, AND disabling of Qi charging. And told her to send the comments to corporate. Who knows...the stuffed suits care very little about what customers have to say until someone reads sales report on Monday morning that shows 1 million less devices sold that month than anticipated. Even then, they'll have little idea why and will continue their manipulations. I'm waiting for HTC M9 to come out, which I will buy unlocked and dump this thing. LG, with all their clout, made a bad decision to let the carriers have complete control and not make sales direct to consumers.

The problem is not LG, it's the carriers. They force manufacturers to allow this because they have a monopoly on the industry. This is just how business works. Get used to it, it's not going away.

My issue with companies like hTc & Sony including an FM Radio app is that you need to use the earbuds/headphones.

Besides, why limit yourself to your Country/FM radio?

tunein Radio Pro. Gives me access to ESPN which we don't have up here and my favourites Colin Cowherd and PTI.

EDIT: It's not available on Bell.

This is the FM radio tuner on my G3 (Sprint). It works beautifully, all you need is a pair of earbuds or headphones. :)

FM broadcasts don't use data, TuneIn and similar do. For some people without unlimited data plans, that's an issue.

I realized that my bad. Also up here our FM Radio pales in comparison since there's no ESPN coverage so I rely on tunein Pro.

The only radio station I listen too is 680 News, AM.

If the carriers are asking the manufacturers to supply modified phones, the manufacturers could always say 'No, we'll supply them the way we want them to be or not at all. Take it or leave it.' The carriers need the phones, so they'd have to take it.

Living in an area with a lot of storm and tornado activity I miss having an fm tuner. Not having to rely on a data connection for updated info can be important.

I don't care what kind of phone you have, that's not how I judge someone's worth or intelligence.

May swarms of locusts devour their extremities.

I guess we're lucky in the UK in respect of carrier treatment of customers.

It's surprising how many Americans there are here. What the attraction is I don't know. Us wanting to go to America I can understand. I've met people from Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Wyoming, New Jersey, South Carolina. I try to guess what part they're from by their accents but was only right once (New Jersey....East Coast accent I thought). Next Americans I meet I'll ask them whether they prefer the UK networks, which AFAIK are free from carrier tampering and bloat.

Exactly.... Many times I see people complaining about the OEM about a particular limitation when it's the carrier's decision. For example, I'm on T-Mobile and they had LG leave the bootloader unlocked right out of the box.... yet there was a popular petition going around to have LG unlock their bootloaders when it really wasn't their call to begin with. I know LG has released a statement that they will work to provide an unlocking mechanism, but it remains to be seen if this comes to fruition since it would require the carrier consent..... and when the carriers balk at the process, people will blame LG.

US carriers offers unlimited data right? I can understand Canadian carriers doing this to force us to use our (limited) data.

Some of them... Verizon and AT&T are the two largest and they no longer offer unlimited and Verizon is doing their best to make anyone with a grandfathered unlimited plan as miserable as possible to force them to switch to the higher priced capped plans.... and they'll hit you up for overage charges. Did I mention that Verizon is run by disciples of Beelzebub?

I swtiched over to T-Mobile... their network doesn't have the coverage that Verizon has, but they aren't dicks about everything.

FM radio has some distinct features unlike spotify and other online radio apps. You don't need data service, plus it's live radio from your local stations.

Heh, this is an old thread.
An obsessively tidy female threw away my pocket radio recently because I made the mistake of leaving it lying around, so I've been using the G3's FM Radio app and listening via some iPhone earphones. I'm sorry to have to say, to those with disabled FM Radio apps, it's pretty good.
