Which Messaging App?

Re: Which Messaging App

Was using evolve and its great but there's a noticeable lag for just about everything when compared to smooth native built hangouts so back to that. Plus hangouts probably more compatible with android wear so getting ready ha. Now if the photos would sync lol

Re: Which Messaging App

I fancy the stock messaging app myself because it usually suited my needs. Based on the topic here, I decided to do a short comparison of the messaging apps everyone listed here. My opinion is completely subjective and I'm not saying one app is better than another. It all depends on what you like. I tested ChompSMS, Evolve, HelloSMS, Handcent, Hangouts, Textra, and 8SMS and Chomp was my personal favorite by far. Chomp in my opinion included the most customization options and greatest functionality but that's in my humble opinion. It's all in what you like. My only issue with Chomp has been stated previously in the thread. I cannot get the green check mark to appear for read messages. I absolutely love that feature from iPhone messaging but it doesn't seem to work as advertised. I was able to achieve the 3 yellow dots however. All in all, chomp is a splendid messaging app that I think I'll use for a while.

@dcscorpio: I'm using Chomp on T-Mobile, I get the green confirmation check fine, and it doesn't go away when I leave a conversation and return.

I've tried Textra, Evolve, and Chomp, and I also liked Chomp best.

Edit: I'm using version 6.27, and I have both the emoji and theme add-ons installed. Not sure if any of that makes a difference.

I change my messaging app as I change some other apps when I want to try something else. I like Handcent, Evolve, Chomp and others.
I have noticed on Chomp I get the check for pictures and the dots for text texts. Maybe SMS vs MMS is the difference.

Re: Which Messaging App

Hmm... I have been a huge Textra fan using it on my Nexus 4 and then G2 but I have been holding off using Textra and using the stock on G3.

But revisiting the topic, I'm seeing that Chomp seems to be getting popular again... I forgot its the same developer that makes Textra and I could have sworn that Chomp was the weaker version when I was using my two previous phones because it was older and not getting updated. Did Chomp recently get a major update where it is better than Textra now? I see the latest update is newer than Textras.

I may have to give Chomp a try.

Re: Which Messaging App

What sold me on Chomp was mainly that I could make different color themes on the free version. It doesn't seem particularly fancy. I seem to be having a problem sending group messages. I'm trying to see if it's chomp or anything setting somewhere.

Re: Which Messaging App

I just picked up my G3 and was wondering what messaging app everyone is using? I've been using the stock one but am not really a big fan of how it looks or works. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
I had been using my seafaring messaging app before since it looked a lot like iOS's (and I'm doing it for sarcasm) but now, I'm trying Hangouts.

Re: Which Messaging App

I use EvolveSMS.
I tried to use EvolveSMS and it kept giving me a sms error and my battery drained 50% two days in a row in less than an hour. Thoughts?

I'm using Chomp right now

Re: Which Messaging App

Cross platform for the win. Something you can use on your mac, pc, iPhone and android etc = Hangouts...

Re: Which Messaging App

I've found myself just using whatsapp exclusively, off I get a text I don't ever read it or respond straight away, is that weird?

You can't use it on Windows Phone and Outlook. FB Messenger is the true cross-platform. \m/

Re: Which Messaging App

I use Verizon messages. I used to use handcent but didn't like how it handled messages. Vzw messages, has text pop-ups that you can reply from without having to unlock your phone and a ton of other options that I like such as being able to draw on a picture before you send it and some location functions. As of the new update you can send sound bites even

Textra for me. The new Android L theme in the latest update is beautiful.

One thing that I really enjoy about the stock keyboard is that you can adjust the height of the keyboard to fit your hand and finger position.

Just go to Settings>General>Language & Input>LG Keyboard.

Hope this helps :)

Re: Which Messaging App

Finally made a decision from stock ATT messaging app back to Textra and really liking the Material Design look and seems to run smoothly and so far liking the notification and the quick reply and developer seems to take suggestions well and making changes.

Textra for me. The new Android L theme in the latest update is beautiful.

Re: Which Messaging App

Gave the developer 3 starts on the Goggle Play site and gave him a few suggestions I think would make Textra nicer...

1: If not using Dark Mode or Black, hope you can customize the background color then with same color choices as Theme color choice (Separately from Theme color to give ability to contrast colors) and allow a picture to be the background.
2: Allow the chat bubble colors (sent/received) to be customized.
3: Beside right-side slide for timestamp view... add Left-side slide to show current chats in progress using round profile pics + a round plus sign chathead at top to create new chat! Using the left arrow at the top or back button is such an old design.

Otherwise it's a solid app and first release of his new UI.

Re: Which Messaging App

They are going to update Textra so that you can once again customize the chat bubble colors. I emailed them and complained about them taking it away. They wrote back and said many people have complained and they are listening to their users.
