So apparently the note8 won't support uhs II, so at least I can save money on micro SD cards.
What are people's thoughts for SD cards? I usually only buy SanDisk (personally and professionally) but some how tempted with a Samsung 256Gb evo+.

The 256Gb Sandisk extreme is the only real other equivalent that I know of but hard to find and when I have found it, a lot more expensive.

Any ideas?

P. S. In the uk we don't get the option of a free SD card, we have to get a free Dex.

I buy type 1 it's faster for photography don't remember the specifics just type 1 card

I presume you mean uhs type 1 (i). The note 8 only supports type I although type II will work but only at slower speeds. Are you saying that a uhs I will be faster than a uhs II in a uhs I device?

Currently looking at the Samsung for £108.

Brands I trust l for memory:

Sandisk
Transcend
Kingston
Samsung
TDK.

Transcend, Kingston and TDK aren't well known, hence cheaper, but they're good brands. Actually you probably own memory modules made by them and just not know it. ASUS and HP laptops ship with memory modules by Kingston or Transcend. AFAIK Toshiba uses TDK.

Had a SanDisk in the past.... Completely froze and locked up after 6 months in my Note... So I had the old promo of a 256 Samsung pro... Its what I use now... Still have a ton of storage on it.

I still have my 256gb card from last year's gifts. that's what I had in my Note 7 so that's what I'll be using

Mine died lost all stored data too ^^^^
Well one died still have the other with stored pics does make me a bit uneasy it might fail to

Sorry to hear that, such a drag. I have taken to backing everything up multiple times and anything on my phone or sd card that isn't backed up to google or Samsung, I back up to my laptop and from there to one or two of several external hard drives. Considering the various data breaches that have happened over the last couple of years, I don't trust anyone's cloud.

Typically, you can finding a Samsung card for the same price as SanDisk. Samsung phone, Samsung card. Just playing it safe.
Also, unless you need huge amounts of storage, you can get a lot more bang for the buck staying at 128gb and under.

I use the micro center ones just as good and has an every day low price. Granted read and write not as fast but micro center has some great store branded stuff

I went with the Samsung 128, same one they are giving away in the promotion, got it on Amazon for $50

I'm using the Class 10 and U3 Samsung 256GB card. However, I am not using it for photos. It will be to move apps to if and when I need room. If I end up installing larger games, I will move to SD card as well. When I used the Moto Z Force Droid, I used adoptable storage (not an option on Samsung) and it worked perfectly. I move photos off my phone to my home media server that in turns backups and I also use Google Photos, so no real need to keep photos on phone.
