Which phone are you switching from and why?

Copy and paste text? Mostly. Text messaging, email, browser, yes. Quickoffice documents or Market app descriptions, no (as far as I can tell). The inconsistency is a bit maddening...

Quick office works perfectly fine for creating and editing documents on the go.

LG Optimus S, i had it for 3 weeks and upgraded to the shift before the 30 days were up and soooo glad i did i am loving this phone the quality is awesome. the optimus was ok nice little phone but just that little phone ran out of memory fast no flash on camera (shift has a way better camera) and most of all the keyboard i found myself textin super slow and still sending the wrong words it was frustrating, angry birds was slightly glitchy at times.
previous phones; palm treo, centro, blackberry. i am now an HTC fan for sure.

I did the exact same for my wife ... and for pretty much the same things you mentioned - memory, occasional lagginess, Angry Birds, camera

I am an original Palm Pre user that's finally jumped ship for greener pastures. I did like WebOS but I love how fast the Evo Shift is.

I do have one question: I was able to to switch my Palm Pre to Roam Only mode, which is almost a must if I want to talk on the phone in my house due to Sprint's signal being weak in my neighborhood. I've only found an option to use Sprint Only network or Automatic.

Has anybody found a way to put the phone in Roam Only mode? This is a huge sale for me!

Thanks,

Dex

I am also switching from the original Palm Pre. I am, however, switching because I dropped my phone in a glass of beer and could not revive it.

Out of curiosity, I had the original EVO, and the 4G Wimax radio would freeze my phone. Does the shift do the same thing when 4G is on? It is a well know issue with some original EVOs per forum.

unsure

I do not have 4G in my area, so this has yet to be on.

menu>settings>wireless and networks>mobile network settings.

That has all the phones standard roaming and 3g settings.

I'm coming from a long line of BlackBerry... My latest one was the Tour. My Mom had the EVO and I loved playing around with it. I told her that all it needed was a physical qwerty and I'd be in love... So here I am. :)

palm pre, just like everybody else... kind of sad, after 12+ years using a palm of some kind.

Long time WinMo on Palm guy here I was so sad when they announced that the treo pro was there last WinMo device. Let me tell ya though give Android a chance I think you will be happy with the outcome.

Glad you decided to make the jump,
Dave

same here been using palm products for a loooong time until I made the switch back in august. I was and am still a bit sad that my palm experience ended on the pre.

You know I said the same thing when I first saw my mom and brothers get their evos. Had the shift come out then I would have switched right then and there.

I switched from an HTC Hero because it broke and would cost $100 to get it replaced haha. I hate slider phones but the slider on this feels so solid, almost OG Droid solid. The processor is flat out amazing for 800 MHz due to the upgrade to the Adreno 205 and if the G2 has any indication, when overclocked this processor will eat faces. I admit after owning the phone for about a week now I actually use the keyboard and it's easily the best I've ever used

I'm going to be switching from a Samsung Moment. I really liked my Moment for a while, but lately it's started to get buggy (re-booted on my when I tried to turn off blueooth, again this morning when I tried to send an email). So I'm upgrading next week.

I had considered the Epic, as my wife has it and really likes it (she could care less about Froyo, or the lack thereof). For me, I like the Shift's smaller size, and the lower price point doesn't hurt, either.

blackberry storm 2 on verizon

I used to be very tolerant of phones. Not after the evo shift. Verizon does have better coverage tho. I can't complain too much tho since my sisters boyfriend put me on his employee family plan which makes my bill less than half the price it was on vzw. Plus the evo shift is way better than the s2.

It is sad to finally leave blackberry tho...

Yeah - but what he's talking about is a "roam only setting" when sprint signal is drop-your-call-in-30-seconds weak but still there, it will still try and use sprint instead of VZ. Roam only patch on the pre was awesome for certain places but I can live without it at this point. The pre needed to go. it was starting to get busted, and I'd already went through 6 of them, and I still use mine on wifi for a few minutes a day for sentimental reasons, lol. it's hard letting go of a really promising OS, but it's time.

Hopefully HP will come out with a killer tablet, because I really like having an android phone. thought WebOS was irreplaceable, but the shift has decent battery life and really good speed. don't think I'll give it up.

On a side note, I just mentioned in passing that I got no service in my house (when I was activating pre #3 and told the rep "wait I need to go outside, no service in here") and she sent me a free airrave and waived the monthly fee... worth a shot.
