Which phone are you upgrading to (if you are)?

I so can't wait for the EVO 3D. And I can't care less if it has a 3D screen or not. I mean I've use one of the 3D screen (Playing a 3DS Not sure if it's the same but yeah) And while it is cool, I could definitely live without it.

I'm thinking about replacing the OV with the Optimus Elite? I know that I won't be anboutt to afford the EVO, so that's out of the question. Can't decide between the Elite and the Wildfire. what do you guys think?

The Wildfire is just a smaller OV. Same screen smaller housing.
The Elite is a little faster.

I would wait for the OneV rather than get any of those. Much better processor, bigger screen, better battery... The OneV is much more modern.

@LeslieAnn Hey I am reading this article HTC Evo V 4G and Evo Design 4G hands-on photos | The Verge

And it says (Like some other sites are saying. Well more like one other site I read) "unlimited 4G data plus 2GB of 3G data." Is this even true? So 4G Will be unthrottled? Does it mean that the 4G speeds will not be slow as what they did to 3G, or do they mean you get unlimited 4G no data cap?

LeslieAnn spoke about how its cheaper to use "4G" than 3G. 3G bandwidth is horrible with the amount of phones on it. The biggest flaw is how certain fruit based phones will use more data than android. THink about when the iphone3g came out and in NYC they were refusing to sell them because ATT's 3G network there couldnt handle the strain. It has not gotten any better for 3G.

I would bet the "4G" will be unlimited until Vm actually gets transfered to 4GLTE.

Why unlimited until LTE? And wow So that means we will have good speeds if you have 4G in your area? (That's if you want to leave it on and drain the battery really fast though)

Well, so then what would be better? After reading through this whole discussion, you guys have convinced me that the Evo 3D is a pretty good phone. So, should I stick with VM, get an Evo 3D, and pay 35 dollars a month, or buy a nicer phone, like a GS2, and pay 30 dollars a month on T-Mobile?

It depends on which service is better in your town.

You should also check out if the TMo plan offers roaming on other networks (do they even have this option anyway?). If they do, that would be an awesome deal. Also, check your WiMax coverage vs TMo's 4G coverage in your area and go from there. Just my two cents.

Right now I would stick with VM if you have good coverage.

cole T-mo prepaid is like VM no roaming. I think Straight Talk is the only prepaid that has "roaming".

4g has no data cap (see below for why).
If you are using 4g, you can go up to say 20 gigs...
However, once you pass 2.5 gigs (on 2g, 3g or 4g), your 3g will be throttled. Only 3g is throttled. 2g and 4g remains full speed.

If you buy they tethering option, you get 3.5gigs.

Good thoughts LeslieAnn, but i'm wondering what the price for the One V is good to look like?
I don't expect them to keep selling the OV more than another 6 months. However, it may bottom out at $59 or $79 msrp. The lowest I would expect to ever see it again is $50.

Face it, it has old software and old hardware. Why upgrade it when they can sell you something newer and better, and preferably get you onto 4g.

Wimax is handled by Clearwire, and they were sued over the whole "unlimited" thing, so it's wide open on Wimax.

It also benefits Sprint by offloading the clogged (and expensive) 3g pipes.
LTE may at some point see throttling, but it has A TON more bandwidth, so realistically, there is not much need to immediately throttle it, especially without Iphone users on it.

Oh, and phone for phone, Iphone users don't use any more data than high end Android users. Initially it was true, but at the time, Iphones were ahead on technology and apps and such, that is no longer true. Many Android users, especially higher end ones, are using every bit just as much as Android and in many cases, more.

Another reason for the complaint, was that it was simply a way for AT&T to put blame for network problems back on the users. The truth is, none of the carriers were prepared for the onslaught of data that masses of smart phone users wanted.

Pretty much.
If you have no good service, it doesn't matter how cool your phone or plan is.

The only way to get pre-paid roaming with an MVNO carrier, you will not get it on pre-paid with any of the big 4. Not even all MVNO's have it.

How long would the battery last on the Evo 3d with 4g constantly on? I never liked having to constantly turn 3g on and off on the optimus v to save battery life. Even with the app to automate it, took a while to turn on and off.

Also Leslie, you misread one of the posts that I would like to know about aswell. How much is the HTC One V going to costs? I heard $200, that would be somewhat nice, although for a single core, not an amazing price.

hmmm.. WiMax. I knew that sounded familiar from something other than mobile. there was a home wireless net provider here called openrange that had wimax labels all over their home modems you used to get your service. hell it was so horrible speed wise that they were bankrupt and out of business within a year. seriously you'd be in dialup territory on a service they promoted as 3mb download speeds. either those modems weren't worth a damn or the service wasn't...or both. now granted that isn't virgin mobile nor a cell phone. but this company did use sprint networks locally to provide the service. $40 bucks a month for subpar wireless dialup is what it amounted to.

(edit) well what do you know.....these jokers managed to not go out of business completely...what a scam their wimax technology was and is. http://www.openrangecomm.com/high_speed_wireless_internet_providers/faq.aspx

I am sticking to Optimus V for now.

There is no doubt HTC Evo V 4g is an awesome phone and that too at awesome price. However, the 4G WiMax speed is not something I am sure about. I live in Metro Atlanta and Clear has excellent coverage here. There are three towers within 3 miles of where I live.

I decided to try the Clearwire $45 4G unlimited plan for home. The download speed was supposed to have no maximum set. However, the reality was there was only one moment in time that I got 10Mbps. This was on a Sunday morning. Rest of the time it was hovering around 2 mbps and at night time, the time we needed most, it was below 1Mbps, almost unusable. When I called Clearwire they tried different settings, but finally they said they do not promise any minimum speed and the final speed I get depends on the volume of usage in that tower. I cancelled the contract after about trying for 15 days. Maybe there is increased capacity in the towers now and 4G might work better. I do not know. So I am wary of the WiMax technology as of now.

But the good news, if enough people move on to 4G WiMax the 3G will get freed up and that is good news for me

this was the same spiel openrange pushed here in Greenville SC. pure garbage internet. i was in the crosshairs of their towers and the speed was ****. no other way to put it.

Wimax radios burn through battery fast. However you only really need it when downloading larger stuff or tethering. Leaving 3g on should easily get you through the day, but you may want to consider a larger internal battery from someone like Anker (I plan to). I usually carry a spare in my bag. The docks are really nice as well, easier than plugging in a cable each night. Cheap on Ebay.

I missread or missed?
Note this is just speculation...

A reasonable guess... the OneV will be between $179 and $230. They can't seriously ask more than $230 considering the Evo V is $299 and destroys it, plus 4G. My best guess is $189 or $199, that puts it below the $200 threshold and leaves room for the Triumph.

Expect the Triumph to slide down to $200 to $230 (bigger screen more $$). The Elite is $149-$159, Wildfire is dropping to $129 or $139, I think. OV may drop another $10-$20. Though I would expect them to blow them out around Sept.

I also expect Virgin to bring in the Conquest or another 4g model around Sept or Oct (possibly sooner) and retail for $220-$250. However we could see another HTC phone instead. Based on Sprint's current lineup, the Conquest would fit into the price slot just right. At which point, the OneV and Triumph could slide down another $10-$20.

There are several doing it, not all are quite so bad.

I have seen 14meg (I think It was over a year ago) in an office using it.
It was a little laggy, but for the time, I was pretty impressed considering the price and what was included.

We were on the 7th or higher floor, so that may have helped too. It was my only experience with Wimax.

Low, but probably still better than Virgin 3g.

my vm 3g actually outperformed the openrange. because of that i promptly dumped openrange in favor of my vm service lol. im serious,it was awful. now mind you those wireless modems could have had a lot to do with reception. those openrange clowns claimed everything caused signal interference. even my xbox lol wow. it doesn't even broadcast a signal that i know of. and it did appear from my tests on openrange that there was definite bandwidth bottleknecking occuring. my next door neighbor had it also and when ever she was actively using and so was i,we both experienced dramatic drops in speed.
