Which phone are you upgrading to (if you are)?

It's a dual core 1.5ghz processor with 1gig of ram, it's just underclocked to 1.2.
It's as fast as anything on the market when clocked back up, I don't think there is an app out there it can't really handle.

Build props are easy to tweak.


Since Jobs died, they have really picked up on lawsuits and such.

They no longer have the hippie stopping their moves to make the company a typical company, so I suspect they will make up for lost time and "lost profits".

Sadly I agree.. I mean lets face it they are the hippies imo.. So no wonder you don't see them anymore.. A 1.5 GHz Proccessor tuned back 300MHz is cool I didn't know that.. I read and read and the consensus is that it never chokes and freezes..

I could get use to that effect.. Of course that's a rooted handset of old I speak of.. It will be interesting to see this ICS rom on there along with 3.6 sense out of the box but I will bore of it quick and root it unless it's just that good.. It's getting rooted will be my bet..

You have to remember, even now, the Evo 3d is a high end phone.
Phones have leveled out a lot on the great race to the top, and from now on things will be small increments rather than the huge jumps we saw one and two years ago. It will require some major new technology before we see a massive jump again.

The 3d has only been busted down to pre-paid because of the Iphone and LTE coming out. In almost every other way, it's still a very current, high end phone. This is why I get annoyed at people stressing over no 4g coverage or it only having wimax or it the 3d being a gimmick.

If Virgin had told us they were going to offer us an unnamed or another phone with identical specs, with tons of developer support, everyone would have been excited as all heck. Instead, people heard 3d and Wimax and turned their nose before they even looked at what else was there. Many were far more excited when they announced the Triumph, for a similar price.

This is an honest to goodness, high end phone, not a rebadged, low end Chinese pile of junk. It may be a year old, but it's still a current, high end HTC that makes everything else in Virgin's lineup (and much of Sprint's) look like junk.

Thanks Leslie. Good info as always. I was a little concerned that I would buy the Evo and have immediate buyers remorse that I didn't get the gnex. But if they're essentially the same speed then I should probably spate the extra $100 and stay with a plan I'm used to.

Plus, something I didn't think about. The gnex has the soft buttons which takes up almost half an inch of screen space actually making the Evo slightly bigger.

Also interesting that the Evo V is on VM's activation list. They must be expecting a couple to be had earlier than the 31st.

yeah, I'm going to make a 2nd wave of calls later in the week. I'm not sure what day of the week that Radio Shack receives new inventory. I'm hesitant to order on Radio Shack just because I'm afraid that it will take longer for them to ship it than if ordering straight through Virgin's website.

I just talked to a radio shack near me and they couldn't pull up any info on it besides what is on the website. he said that usually if it is on the website then stores are already getting them. I am going to call a couple of other stores in the area. Sounds like if they don't already have them they should be getting them in the next couple of days.

it's on backorder and will ship 1-2 weeks, so i'm guessing you may have to wait longer than if you ordered it from VM's website.

the good news though is that a couple of the Radio Shack stores I called already knew about it coming out and said it should be at their stores in 1 or 2 weeks. So hopefully we'll luck out next week and be able to purchase them in the store and not have to wait for shipping!

When I do my sweep through of the local stores again on Thursday (since I really don't think anyone will have it in stock this week), I'm going to ask what it will take to get a phone call the moment it comes in. If they state "oh I can't do that", then I'll put some cash on the table.

No worries, I just hope (and suspect that it will) go over better than the Triumph.

I was thinking about it. I suspect around Wed. we can start expecting to see them. Many stores get shipments on Tues. and Thurs. Best thing you can do is ask when they expect their next one.

Bribing them won;t usually help, if they have it, they WILL try and sell kt to you, Radio Shacks are franchises and usually sleazy ones at that. They may however try and force you to buy minutes or allow them to activate it, which doesn't make sense and shows how little they really understand Virgin.

By the way, this is actually against Radio Shack's corporate policy, but more than that, I wouldn't let them mess with your account.

I went from being hopeful about the Optimus Black coming at the end of 2011. I resigned to waiting even longer when all the OV spinoffs showed up on their site. I was skeptical when the 4" screen rumors began. I was excited when the Evo was rumored and then somewhat confirmed. I was annoyed the release date was so far away. But posting then pulling the ad, I, I, I am at my wits end with this waiting!
