Which phone to upgrade to Note 9 or S9 Plus?

I'd say it depends on your preferences. If you want a bigger battery, a bigger screen and a stylus, I would recommend the Note 9. The S9+ has a smaller battery (but it's still pretty big, at 3500 mAh); and it will probably be at a back-to-school discount now/it may drop down in price due to the Note 9 coming out.

So I assume many here had the s8 Plus, then the Note 8 then the S9 Plus and then the Note 9. That's a sh** load of money to spend on phones. I skipped the S9 Plus and glad I did. Note 9 was worth the wait and not spending the money on the s9 plus.

It definitely can add up lol, I have 2 lines so I always have an upgrade available the next year, and I sell the oldest device to offset the price.

I'd certainly support the recommendation to visit your high street store to play around with the retail models to get a feel on which would be the best for your uses.

Hands-on experience is always the way to go, IMO! That's one downer to phones like OnePlus: I want them but I can't go to a store to try them out and see how they feel in the hand.

To answer the OP's question, the Note9 is the better investment if you plan on keeping it long term. If you want a lower price, get the S9+. The answer is very subjectivity as only you know what you want in a phone.
If you ask people in the S9+ forum, you may get a different response.

I pre-ordered my Note 9 from BestBuy, got $250 for trading in an S7 that would turn on and didn't have any cosmetic damage, but no longer worked reliably and wasn't usable. I think the standard trade-in value for an S7 was only $93. Plus I'm getting the free AKG headphones that I think I can sell for around $150. That drops my Note 9 price to $600. The S9+ is selling for $740 now at B&H. So it was a no-brainer for me, but that's because I caught the pre-order deal. As for size, the Note is only 1/10" wider and 2/10" taller, which seems pretty insignificant. Bigger batter, more storage, S Pen, better screen -- a terrific phone!

I posted above that I have the US unlocked S9+ and the AT&T Note 9. This week, I have to say my S9+ is lasting longer per charge then my Note 9. This is likely because the S9+ is unlocked and there is no carrier bloat or modifications. Over night on my S9+, i am at 10.5 hrs stanby and the battery is at 93%.

I saw the same amazing performance when I had a US unlocked S8+.

I came from the S7 to S9+. Great phone but I was somewhat disappointing in the picture quality (I could have had a defective phone). Five months later, I gave my S9+ to my husband and bought the Note 9. Wowza!!! Now that was an upgrade x 10! What a phone! And I'm super happy with the camera/picture quality. All the YT videos I've watched said the camera is "basically"' the same as the S9 but it's not and I've read of others saying the same thing. My vote is the Note 9.

There are yearly upgrade plans available from T-mobile & Sprint (not sure about the other 2 carriers in the US).

Sprint had a great deal for the Note9 - $0 down and $20.81 per month and you can upgrade when the Note10 comes out.
T-mobile...not so much. An arm and a leg...I mean $279 down and $30 per month.
After 12 months, $250 total out of pocket with Sprint, $640 for T-mobile.
