Hi guys

I have never used an sd card so I need to know which one is the correct card as I know there are many different types, is it a micro sd?

Also I will be using it for video recording so if I press record on the phone how long would a 32gig or a 64 gig record for until it was full at least a couple of hours? I have no idea about these cards :) Does the video record for longer on a phone due to resolution?
is this the right one below?

SanDisk Extreme? microSDHC™/microSDXC™ UHS-I Card_64GB
SDSDQXL-064G-A46A

many thanks

Andy

You need a microSD card, and if you can, make sure it is HC or Class 6 (or higher) lower class cards take longer for the information to be writting/stored onto them. In this case faster is better.

The higher resolution video you shoot, the faster the card will fill up. A video shot at 1080p will fill up a card faster then the same video shot at 720p. So, all things considered, if you want the BEST, be prepared to pay for it. I'd look for a 64gig MicroSD card, class 10.

If you buy a small, cheap, class 4 card you will be disappointed.

Thanks for that I won't buy cheap but can you tell me if the one I posted in my original message is a good one to get?

That one looks pretty good, it should work well.

I know SOME (not all) Samsung devices have had issues with corrupting data on the SD card - meaning suddenly whatever files (pictures, videos, music, whatever) you have saved on the SD card will be totally and completely inaccessable. Just to be safe, make sure you back up whatever is on the SD card regularly, just in case. That's good practice in any case, but especially since it seems that for some reason Samsung devices seem to have this issue more then other devices.

Thanks I will get that one then but as for backing stuff up I just can't seem to be able to do it, I loaded Kies onto my pc but it didn't seem to work, I am not very good at this backing up malarkey :)

An easy way to ensure your pictures are backed up is to get a Dropbox account (it's free for the first 5GB). During set up, you can indicate you want photos to automatically upload to your Dropbox. Other gret features include the ability to access your stuff anywhere and share your content by means of sending a link, rather than trying to email photos or whatever you're trying to send.

I have got a Dropbox account but I have never used it so am not really sure how to set it up to backup, I am the worst at not getting my phone to backup, I installed Kies 3 on my pc and recently tried to back it up and it said it had but yet when I run Kies I can't see anything in there off my phone so I have no idea where it has gone :)

You need to install Dropbox on your phone to get the auto backup feature. During setup, there's a camera upload option that you'll activate. Any photos on your phone as well as any you take in the future will upload to Dropbox automatically. I'm not all that familiar with Kies so I can't provide info. The easiest way to back up your phone is via your Google account (presuming you have one). It will auto backup your mail, contacts, calendar, etc.

Thanks I will try that and I do have a google account but have never used it so no idea what to do with it, I lost all of the photos on my phone the other day as I deleted a video I took but for some strange reason all my photos went as well, it's my own fault for being a numpty when it comes to this sort of stuff but as I said Kies didn't work for me so I just assumed the rest would be as bad.

An easier way to access the files on your phone from your computer (and allow you to copy files TO your computer) is this:

- On your phone, go to settings and scroll down to about phone. Tap on it.
- Scroll down to "Build Number". Tap on this 7 times in rapid succession. You should get a pop up saying something about "You have unlocked developer options". Don't worry, this isn't as scary as it sounds!
- Hit the back button once. Look for Developer Options and tap on it.
- Look for either "USB Debugging" or "Android debugging" and tap it to enable it. Again, not as scary as it sounds!
- Plug your phone into your computer using the USB cable. On your phone a popup should appear as a warning about using the computer to access your files. Yes, this is what you want! Be sure the computer also tells you the driver for your device installed correctly.

From here you can access the files on your phone (and you should also be able to access the files on the mircoSD card if its in the phone as well). You can copy and paste the files from your phone onto your computer using Windows.

Be sure to go through the setup using Dropbox. I have mine set to backup my photos anytime I connect to my home WiFi. Documents are automatically backed up using Google Drive (also a good thing to set up on your phone and your computer). If SMS/texts are important to you, those can easily be backed up as well using SMS Backup&Restore from Google Play. If you also get the "network add-on" you can set it to automatically back up your texts during the day and auto-upload the backup file to Google Drive, Dropbox, Gmail, or a few other options.

It does take a bit of time to get backups set properly but it's worth it.

I have a Nexus device, so I don't have to rely on Kies (thankfully - I've heard so many people having problems with it). These are the things that work well for me. Hopefully this information helped

Thanks so much for taking the time to write that :) I will have a go and I just deleted Kies from my PC! I must have activated drop box when I got my phone I have no memory of doing it but I just checked and the photos I deleted the other day off my phone are in drop box :))))) so that's good news.

Since the last software update my note 2 rarely connects to my home wifi! It does sometimes go on it downstairs where the router is but if I go upstairs it never connects, yet before the update when I came home it would connect to wifi all the time. I have just turned the phone on downstairs and it won't go on it just says authenticating then it says saved, secured and doesn't connect it seems to keep searching! It is driving me mad I wonder if a new router might improve things as I have had this one years, but my ipad connects easily it just makes no sense. Grrrrrr

4.3 kinda screwed up the wifi settings for some reason. I had LOTS of trouble with my Galaxy Nexus when on WiFi. Quick fix that sometimes works is just to toggle airplane mode on (which should disable wifi, bluetooth, and cell radios). Wait a minute or 2 and turn airplane mode off again. This sometimes works, but most times I just need to power-cycle my router. It's a pain in the ****, no doubt. But sadly... it's just something I have to do occasionally. Heck, once in a while I have to reboot the whole system (modem and router)

If you do the modem and router, unplug both. Go to your phone's wifi settings and tap your home network. "forget" it, we'll re-add it later. Wait 30 seconds, plug in the modem. Give it a minute or 2 to power up and start drawing signal. After that minute or 2, plug in the router. Again, give it a minute or 2 to power up and start broadcasting. on your phone, scan for wifi networks, select your home network, and log in. Generally I don't need to do this very often, but it does seem to help to keep my home network stable. Weird, but true

Just get the highest class card you can afford. Class 10 is best really for loading times. You know if you save all your photos to the card. The speed of the card will determine how fast the gallery loads up.
