Who here still has unlimited data?

Obviously I understand your points. You feel that by upgrading and going to share everything you save money. $80 a month. Obvious still, I did find the saving money aspect irrelevant. Because really, why the ---- would I be on Verizon if I wanted to save money?? I could spend a lot less on T-Mobile for the amount of lines I pay for. I get that you're the one that's not the primary account holder. I was just giving you options to present to the one who is. But you just want the magic beans (i.e. upgrade a phone and end up on share everything) so everything I told you appears moot for you anyway (I just hope it isn't for someone else.)

So those points that you think I ignored, I didn't...I just find them irrelevant, because I and others (like the one poster I liked/thanked a few posts back) only care about keeping unlimited data. We don't want to just upgrade our lines for a phone that will be outdated in a few months to a year; that would be dumb since unlimited data is more valuable than that. I believe it is you that is ignoring my points, because you already made up your mind before you made your first post on this thread. But the reason I'm adamant isn't to change your mind (because you already made it) it is to help prevent others from making the mistake you will make.

BTW, the reason you would sell an unlimited data line is because since you just want an upgrade anyway, you'd just reopen the line and get your subsidized pricing. If you were smart, the proceeds you'd make from selling the AOL line would pay for the phone and then some. But you just want to throw away unlimited data, and that does make me a little sad, but I really won't lose that much sleep over it...lmao. I was just trying to look you out, even though you are a Pats fan...(I'm in no position to talk jazz this year......only that my team blocked yours in the Pats' last two Super Bowl appearances...........my Giants are sucking this year... :( )

The good news is the Giants are playing the Vikings tomorrow. You may get a win after all.

Go Bears.

To add to this I believe when you an AOS on your line you're also selling your phone number. I don't know about everyone else but I don't feel like starting over from scratch, texting everyone and calling those non cell phones with a change of number notification unless necessary. Also, calling or updating all of my account with my bank, Acura Financial, work, etc is t worth the hassle.

There is no reason for anyone to give Aaron any negative response anymore. Let Aaron do as they wish and leave it be. $80 per month isn't chump change for anyone out there. I wish I could save that much and put it towards my car payment.

That's another thing, when you do get rid of a line you lose the number and I can't lose this number as it has been the same one for 3 years come June. My college, job, and everyone and everything has that same number that If I change that, that would be the biggest hassle ever.

Wow, well then. I will say to you that it's only a mistake if you regret your actions. I don't regret very few things, least of all something that pertains to a cell phone. If you are saying a phone that gets outdated quickly, what phone you have that is so future proof? Also, if I had made up my mind before hand I would never had made this thread.

If you say so...but reading your initial responses, my Virgo intuition/INTJ kicked into over time...no worries my friend.

I got a Note 3...courtesy of alternate upgrade. If I can hold a Droid Charge for 2 years, I can certainly do a Note 3 for at least that long...

As I said earlier, best of luck to you. I am satisfied that my point was made. I wasn't trying to sound negative...just trying to show options.

And btw, I started using Google Voice sometime ago...I am not a slave to my cell number. People have my GV number (it's free) and I don't have to worry. Oh, I don't get MMS support from GV....waaahhhh....lol. I get a number I can keep for life and its the number my banks, work, friends, family have. But all that notwithstanding, I am done. :)

I guess no one's into saving money in this forum I can take the bill down about $80 moving to share everything. That's two weeks of gas or even money you can spend elsewhere or save. I thought that wild be a good thing.

Saving money isn't always bad.. And I missed the part of helping your mom out but... You really could help more by getting a job.. But that's just my 2 cents on that instead of saying your saving by costing less. Should cost $0 for her :).

I have a job already. She volunteered to pay for the phone bill while I'm in college.

We all prioritize things differently. Saving $80 a month is nearly $1,000.00 a year, and is a good chunk of money. If you can live without unlimited data for a large savings, then sure, seems fine to me.

I pay $140 for 5 lines of service with 2 smartphones including one with unlimited unthrottled 4GLTE and 3 dumb phones. Though I sacrifice minutes and texts as I only have 550 shared minutes. I also sacrifice but having a smartphone on 3 lines but they don't want or need smartphones. I do have unlimited mobile to mobile and nights and weekends, which I use to my advantage. I also don't have a texting plan. If I went with unlimited voice and text, my bill would be a lot higher. For me, the sacrifice is worth it since it didn't require much sacrifice at since no one texts and mostly use cell phones for short calls, longer calls are done through land line.

I could make it with 6GB. I thought they were giving the 6GB to those who used to have the unlimited plan?

Posted via Droid RAZR M on the Android Central App

yes they are. i was offered the same thing when i went to the store. thinking about it too, but my data usage is only about 1.5 gb.

Then why not get it?

Figured I'd chime in since I agree with much of what CG101 has said, though everyone's individual situations are different, so regardless of how this turns out, assuming you haven't already given up unlimited data, I think it's cool that you want to take care of your mom and save her money.

However, Verizon doesn't throttle 4G LTE data IIRC, so Unlimited truly means unlimited, and while I am not going to argue that Verizon is always the best in coverage, they are usually in the top 2.

I've been on buses, trains and diners that usually have wifi, but many times my Verizon data connection is faster and more stable, so I use that. Othertimes, the wifi goes down and it's nice to have a dependable cellular backup.

If you have a dependable, unlimited, mobile data connection, there are enough apps out there to also have unlimited text and voice as well. Having unlimited minutes but limited data, would not help me if my wifi went down and I was in the middle of watching Netflix or in the middle of uploading a large file.

There are people that want unlimited data and also people that don't care as much to keep it. If you willingly give it back to Verizon by accepting an upgrade or going to share everything, that's one less line that could be in the hands of someone who truly wants it.

For the people that can live with 6 GB on Verizon Max, I understand why it would be beneficial to take it, since it is only available to people that are giving up unlimited data and wish to keep their grandfathered Nationwide or AC price plan. However, if you move to share everything plan, there are ways to keep your phone number, sell your unlimited data, and get a new phone.

1. Port your # to Google Voice or another carrier.
2. After the port goes through, call Verizon and tell them you are sorry for leaving and want to reactivate your line with a new #. If you do it within 14 days of porting out, any ETF is waived.

3. Your old VZW line with a new # will still have unlimited data.
4. Open a new line on VZW and tell them you want to do a port request.
5. Port your old # back to Verizon.
6. If you cancel service with the other carrier within 3 days of activating it, you may be able to get any activation fee credited.
7. Sell your unlimited data line or just give it to someone that wants it and make them very happy.

If you sold the line with unlimited data, you could probably clear $200-$250 or more after fees. You could take your mom out for a nice meal and have money left over.

I don't want to port my number to Google voice, I have heard some horror stories about people losing it when they go to another carrier. Also don't want to depend on a service for my phone number. I'd rather just stay on Verizon with my number and get a new plan. I understand it may be more valuable to others but I rather just take the easiest route. Especially when its a service that's not essential for my life. Its just data for my smartphone nothing more and nothing less.

Still unlimited data, voice, and tethering here. I think my bill is 160/mo which would suck if my employer didn't pay for it.

I've got an old grandfathered Family Plan (700 shared minutes, one smartphone, one dumbphone, unlimited data @ 30/month, no texts) that qualifies for a corporate discount that gets my plan down to only $85/month - as long as Verizon let's me keep I'm not going anywhere. We rarely use the minutes (most is in network) and I'm able to use my wife's line for upgrades to keep my unlimited (just got the G2 a couple of months ago for $139). I get a new phone every year because there are plenty of places to get a new dumbphone for less than $100 for my wife - we have spares and she has NO DESIRE for a smartphone. Consider myself VERY LUCKY.

Had UL data for years and still do. My former employer discount cuts it down to $78/mo. For everything. However I'm concerned ill maybe lose that discount soon with all the verification audits going on. If that happens I may possibly move to AT+T. While id be on a 3Gig data plan I no longer need UL so much since I now have home internet. My bill over there would be around $30 less then. In any case I'm an out of contract free agent. Just taking it one day at a time.;)

My contract ended this month so I'm on a Droid Maxx with no commitment. I actually looked at T-Mobile today to see how much of a price difference it would be and without doing much math it looks like I'd save $20 per month. Not enough of a saving for me to jump as long as I have Unlimited Data on Verizon.

December our contract is up. Verizon is EVIL I will be glad to finally jump ship. Yes I have unlimited data but, I am ok to let it go and go with ATT or TMobile. For us on a family plan it is actually an 80 dollar savings on TMobile, but probably end up going with ATT since they have better service.

Did that include the cost of the phone too? Or just the unsubsidized plan cost?

5 lines and I pay slightly less than $200. Got 4 upgrades available to me, and plan on using a couple to sell phones on Swappa.

Not for nothing, but even before I joined Verizon, I knew that it was never cheap. It was almost a status symbol (around NYC area) because if you had Verzon, people knew you either had money or good credit. People on other networks (T-Mobile, Sprint especially) were envious because Verizon ALWAYS had a signal. I'm talking about voice, at this point, forget data.

So yeah, people on Verizon aren't on Verizon to save money. VZW customers know it, and Verizon knows it too. If I want to save money, I'd go to T-Mobile, no questions asked. In the meantime, I'll keep Verizon, my Unlimited Data, and not be that guy/girl taking magic beans (upgrading to a phone outdated in a few weeks...any phone. lol) and keep my Unlimited Data until Verizon says otherwise. Unlimited Data on Verizon is just way too valuable...

I'd save $20 per month if I subtract the $20 each month for the phone. I didn't count that because its not fair to count the cost of a phone in one plan and not in the other. If I did it would be:

Unlimited talk+text+data + Phone on T-Mobile for $90 per month.

900 Minutes + Unlimited Data and Text + Insurance for $96

Add insurance into T-Mobile and I guess its the same with the phone added in.

Depends on how you look at it I guess. I figure the total cost over 2 years. Now, if you keep your phone for well over 2 years then yeah, you would save a bit going to tmo. But if you like me and are usually always on contract, then counting the total cost over 2 years (including the subsidized cost of phone and full price for unsubsidized plan) is a valid assessment
