Who here still has unlimited data?

I am the biggest advocate for not losing unlimited data. I was able to absorb someone else's line through "assumption of liability" (hint: anything I put in quotes, copy it and put it through Google, or even put it through the search function on this forum...it gets talked about a lot here and elsewhere on the Internet.) The AOL line was done this year...Verizon rep who handled it was pissed, but she had to honor not taking my unlimited data away. :D

So I have three unlimited data lines. I went through Hurricane Sandy and was without power for 8 days. Our phones were the only thing keeping us sane during that ordeal (thank God for my car charger...that was super clutch!) I don't care if I use 1 MB (megabyte...) a month, I'm never letting unlimited data go. Verizon Unlimited Data is a lot more valuable than the best phone on the market (and right now, that's either a Note 3 or if you like Apple, a 32GB 5S) I wouldn't give up unlimited data for any phone, period.

Thanks to the "verizon alternate upgrade" (remember my hint and include the quotes in your search) I got my Note 3 without losing my unlimited data, as did many others. If you look at my Note 3 unboxing thread, the first pic I have is my Note showing the Verizon widget with unlimited data shown as clear as day! (Coincidently, the photos were taken with my Droid Razr Maxx I get from work...lol.)

Morale of the story: Don't give up unlimited data, under any circumstances. If Verizon ends up taking it away from every customer, that's when I go to T-Mobile and save some money. Because at that point, being on the best network in the country just won't matter to us.

I know about the alternate upgrades as it was discussed already and assumption of liability is something I wouldn't do. My only options are to use retail, upgrade, or go on eBay/Swappa. I'm not the primary account holder, so some things aren't an option.

Well, since it seems you know your options, then I guess you have made up your mind. However, for those who read your thread looking for options, they don't have to throw away unlimited data OR buy retail. If you want to keep unlimited data but get a new phone, you could go Device Payment Plan. I did it for a couple of months, sold my phone on Swappa, paid off the balance and went alternate upgrade. Sounds to me you are going to take the magic beans and get a new phone and get rid of unlimited data, except that really will be a poor choice and those beans won't grow into a beanstalk and gain you riches. :) Otherwise if you are planning to keep unlimited data, you could do Device Payment Plan and make payments for 12 months.

Beanstalk and beans? What a metaphor for unlimited data. But, I don't want to get rid of it it's like I said anything that adds onto what is already being paid onto our bill already (device payment plan) is not beneficial as I'm not the primary account holder. It's not like I'm saying "forget unlimited data I'm going tiered! " Verizon does not give you the easiest options to get a new device, I got my Razr m off of eBay, last year, and I might just have to get a new device off of their again. I have insurance so if what I get is not in the best shape, it can be replaced. I'm not stressing over getting a new device that bad, I still have an awesome device.

Just curious. Why do you think the the VZW rep was pissed? I've also assumed unlimited data and basic lines and also allowed them to be assumed. I've always had a good experience. It's clear, at the moment Verizon doesn't mind allowing the transfer of unlimited data
through AOL. Just look on eBay for proof.

It might have been that I was asking a lot if I was going to lose unlimited data. She might have been more annoyed than anything else. But she lost her friendly disposition quick though....it might have been more me than me getting unlimited data. Also, this was back in April/May of 2013.

Just had an awesome idea, since my mom upgraded in April and had share everything, I can upgrade and increase the amount of data she already has and it would be $80 less than what we pay now, and when February comes around we can chop off that extra line we have and we can save around $100 less come February. I know the goal is to keep unlimited but if I am able to save money, I will take it. I see why the share everything plans are good for those have multiple people on one account. I barely used over 4GB according to Verizon website and that's with 2.5 of it towards Netflix and YouTube, if I cut those off I can use even less data. I guess I'm upgrading soon then.

I have unlimited everything for $75 per month with 4g coverage. My largest month of data usage was 0.9gb...I stream WiFi every chance I get. Even with 4g, WiFi is faster.

So we made a decision, then. :)

Enjoy your magic beans. (Which, by the way is your upgrade for a new phone; akin to Jack using his money he was supposed to use for a cow to buy his "magic beans.")

The sad thing about this is that you won't even monetize the unlimited data line to sell on eBay or whatever. I understand you're not the primary account holder, but you just wanted validation to do the upgrade and lose the unlimited. At least if you sold the rights to your line, unlimited data would be used by someone who will keep it indefinitely and you get your magic beans, oh excuse me, an upgrade to a new phone. You save money because then you can reclaim the line you lost and get the upgrade, and a person has unlimited data. Everyone wins. But I know you won't do that, and Verizon is the one who wins in your scenario. At least with the scenario I propose, you not only "save money", but you "make money" as well. That would be most ideal.

Paying a minimum of $30 for a data plan to use Wifi device is just...I dunno.....a waste of money? For that, save more money and get a flip phone then get any smartphone you want and use that as a WiFi-only device.

So curving your usage to meet their standards of what you should pay? Hmm.. I guess that works for some :P.

I guess you missed the part where I can save over $100 and that I'm not the primary account holder. I'm trying to help my mom out. If I can save her money I consider that a win. I'm not going to keep costing her money like that. I just looked at our bill and it's $249 for our lines. I have Unlimited texts and data and 1500 minutes and my mom has share everything with 2GB. That's too much I can take it to $170 for unlimited texting and calling with 8GB. That's about an $80 difference. I'm going to college in January and I want to ease the financial pressure I put on my mom. I have a job at Barnes and Noble and I put gas in her car and haven't asked from a dime from her in months. The inky thing she pays for that will still include me when I go to college is our cell phone plan and even that I want that to be cheaper for her.

I guess no one's into saving money in this forum I can take the bill down about $80 moving to share everything. That's two weeks of gas or even money you can spend elsewhere or save. I thought that wild be a good thing.

I hear what you're saying bud about the savings. I think some of us just aren't ready to sacrifice unlimited data for a savings. For me, personally, I just enjoy the piece of mind of not worrying about data limits on things I download or stream....

I'm not downloading or streaming though well, Netflix would be streaming but even then, I have Netflix on my xbox and my computer so I'll be alright with that. Losing Unlimited data ($30) is worth the savings ($80). My mom has agreed to pay for the phone bill while I'm in college too, so this will help her out in the long run.

You're doing the right thing and your hearts in the right place. If you don't need it and can save money why not go for it? I hope it all works out and good luck in college. I'm going back to school myself and would make the same sacrifices since my parents pay for my schooling. The only real issue there is I pay my own phone bill. :p

Listen, I have always subscribed to the belief that family comes first, period.

My issue was that you came on here looking for a way to keep unlimited data, but I knew that you just wanted a hot phone and save money. Nothing wrong with that, but you really wanted the upgrade more. If your financial situation requires a savings, then you should at least consider selling your unlimited data line. But you won't do it, because it is too much work (even though you MAKE money and save money...lmao...thats really what gets me) and you have better things to do. I get that, I too was a young guy who didn't want to listen and was impulsive.

In any event, best of luck to you. It is my hope that anyone else who reads this thread and is considering taking an upgrade over unlimited data sees that unlimited data on Verizon is a lot more valuable than an upgrade to any phone. I also hope that your family situation gets sorted out.

1.) There is no family situation, I wanted a new phone and save some money doing it.

2.) Why would I try to sell a line to something I am not the primary owner of?

3.) Unlimited Data is not worth me doing extra steps to try keep it. If it's gone, it's gone. Life moves on.

4.) Also, if was to sell the line, where would I go for my phone and service. I still want to be on Verizon. Selling my line anyways would not help at all.

I don't know what it is, whether you are skimming over my posts or ignoring them completely but, I did come on here looking for advice, but all you are saying is sell the line, or keep it like my life depends on it.

To add to this I believe when you an AOS on your line you're also selling your phone number. I don't know about everyone else but I don't feel like starting over from scratch, texting everyone and calling those non cell phones with a change of number notification unless necessary. Also, calling or updating all of my account with my bank, Acura Financial, work, etc is t worth the hassle.

There is no reason for anyone to give Aaron any negative response anymore. Let Aaron do as they wish and leave it be. $80 per month isn't chump change for anyone out there. I wish I could save that much and put it towards my car payment.

Obviously I understand your points. You feel that by upgrading and going to share everything you save money. $80 a month. Obvious still, I did find the saving money aspect irrelevant. Because really, why the ---- would I be on Verizon if I wanted to save money?? I could spend a lot less on T-Mobile for the amount of lines I pay for. I get that you're the one that's not the primary account holder. I was just giving you options to present to the one who is. But you just want the magic beans (i.e. upgrade a phone and end up on share everything) so everything I told you appears moot for you anyway (I just hope it isn't for someone else.)

So those points that you think I ignored, I didn't...I just find them irrelevant, because I and others (like the one poster I liked/thanked a few posts back) only care about keeping unlimited data. We don't want to just upgrade our lines for a phone that will be outdated in a few months to a year; that would be dumb since unlimited data is more valuable than that. I believe it is you that is ignoring my points, because you already made up your mind before you made your first post on this thread. But the reason I'm adamant isn't to change your mind (because you already made it) it is to help prevent others from making the mistake you will make.

BTW, the reason you would sell an unlimited data line is because since you just want an upgrade anyway, you'd just reopen the line and get your subsidized pricing. If you were smart, the proceeds you'd make from selling the AOL line would pay for the phone and then some. But you just want to throw away unlimited data, and that does make me a little sad, but I really won't lose that much sleep over it...lmao. I was just trying to look you out, even though you are a Pats fan...(I'm in no position to talk jazz this year......only that my team blocked yours in the Pats' last two Super Bowl appearances...........my Giants are sucking this year... :( )
