Who is a little scared to buy a n6?

I got in yesterday with the Mot site - arriving early Dec. The online assistant I chatted with said that we can get the handset insurance but it's not available yet. I hope it's not much more than the Moto X insurance ($85 one time charge for up to 3 incidents in 2yrs @ $39 per replacement).

Yes I'm scared. The reviews have me very concerned if I made the right decision selling my N5. Using my old Nexus 4 makes me realize that battery and camera matter very much. Both of those things aren't up to my current standards anymore on the N4.

The problem is, I don't see another Android phone that I'd buy in place of the Nexus 6. This generation is almost a throwaway for me. I'm actually half thinking about buying an iPhone 6 - it does the battery and camera thing better than any of the rest and when I resell it in a year I'll recoup more from it than any Android phone. Hopefully by then we'll have the no-compromise Android device we deserve.

This quote I found at Droid Life makes me scared.
95% of the time, the Nexus 6 flies through any task you throw at it. Android 5.0 is so buttery smooth in transitions, the Snapdragon 805 processor handles all of its heavy animations and layers, and games or videos play without a stutter. Every so often, though, you will see slight delays when hitting the app switcher or home button, when trying to exit the camera, or tapping a notification to open an app. The thing is, I’m not worried about it because these delays are consistent on the Nexus 9 as well

Anyone who has the N6, do you see this lag as described above? They also said that this lag may have to do with the encryption that is shipped with the N6 and phones like the N5 and Moto x when they get 5.0 will be even faster than the N6 because they do not have this encryption. Anyone else hear this?

I've been painted as a "troll" because I've pointed out flaws on this device, but I'm actually objective when it comes to these things. That said, I wouldn't worry about the speed of this phone. The fact it's shipped encrypted does slow some app loading and keeps the boot time above a minute, but unless you're performing a speed test with another phone, you won't notice it. Now I'm not certain you'll see a night and day difference with the Nexus 5, but performance is the last thing anyone should be worried about when a device ships with a Snapdragon 805/Adreno 420.

Pre-ordered mine a couple of days ago on AT&T. I currently have a Moto X 2013 and love it. Looking forward to it.

The three things that concern me the most about the Nexus 6 as compared to my Moto X are:
1. No "twist and shoot" camera. That was a big thing for me. I have to lock my phone for corporate security purposes (MobileIron) and being able to take a photo quickly is very convenient.
2. The active notifications don't "pulse" so there's no ongoing notification. If I miss a notification, that's it unless I pick up the phone.
3. Reported concerns of speed. I have trouble believing it's entirely encryption because my Moto X 2013 is encrypted and the difference is unnoticeable. Unless there's a flaw in the encrypt/decrypt code.

We shall see on all three, and anything else that comes up. I'm hoping the screen size, proper front-facing speakers, battery life, and form factor allow me to not feel like I need my Moto X, LG Optimus G Pro, AND Nexus 7 banging about for different tasks. I'll accept some compromises, I just hope they are reasonable ones. :)

Does anybody else feel like no matter which phone they buy, between the N6 and the Note 4, they'll still be thinking about the other phone?

Not me.
Have not even expended a thought towards the Note 4.
Nexus all the way for me.

Mav.

I'm a little nervous about the screen. I sold the LG G pad 8.3 gpe because of the dim/yellow screen.

Haha yeah it's just about the different ways they excel, and thinking about spending that kind of money and making sure you're getting the most out of what you want. Honestly seeing the Nexus in store today and holding it/putting it in landscape truly made it feel like a tablet replacement for me on top of being a great phone, there's the quick updates. stock android, on screen buttons, too. While the Note obviously has it's own aspects that are better than the Nexus in my eyes (screen/battery/expandable storage/certain parts of the camera), I don't know if all of those things combined make it so much better that it's worth buying instead.

Sorry, I know this conversation has been had so many times. It's just been on my mind especially with these delays and how I could walk into the store tomorrow and walk out with a Note 4 if I really wanted to. I said it in the T-Mobile thread, but you really can't go wrong with either phone, in my opinion, so I guess it's not a bad problem to have

I've got that feeling in the back if my mind as well. It's likely because I've had the note 2 and 3

I think my main concern is how often the ambient display will show itself before I finally catch my message.

It looks like there are some apps that can help you if you just prefer having the kind of notification awareness that LEDs give, here's one I saw linked a bit ago NoLED. I don't know how much power it'll use but reviews don't mention any problems so that's a good sign.

Thanks for sharing that link
I've seen that before but have never had the need to give it a shot, until now....err soon

No problem! The only other thing readily on my mind is the app Lightflow, which is meant for LEDs notifications but a forum member asked the developer about possibilities for the Nexus 6 and got this response:

"Hello. I am wondering if there are any plans to incorporate notifications for devices that don't have LEDs? Like the Nexus 6. I am going to go crazy without lightflow and no LED light. Something simple like flashing colors on the screen in place of led? If not I would like to suggest that as a feature .

Thanks for your time."

His response was "Hi
It's something I'm planning to work on as soon as the lollipop release of lightflow is out (should be in the next few days) as I'm keen to get a nexus 6 but will also miss the led!

Cheers, Andrew"
