Who thinks the V30 ISN'T good or is just meh?

I think I'm going to get it. I really want those upgraded cameras and the new high dB recording feature that uses the ear speaker as a mic. I also want the waterproofing, which sidelined my V20 during my last trip to FL and we ended up using a G6 where getting the phone wet was a risk. I was hoping this generation would finally have 4K 60fps video recording. Maybe next year.

I had a bit of a preview of life without a spare battery, as over the weekend I forgot my spare battery charging it at work. I had to lug around a big *** powerbank which makes it similar to carrying around three phones instead of one. But I survived. The V30 will drag me kicking and screaming for the loss of the removable battery and IR blaster which I use often also.

But the screen ghosting / retention is getting worse on this V20 and is increasingly annoying. Hopefully the OLED display on the V30 doesn't get burn in like all the Samsungs I've owned. Just like I hoped that battery technology evolved to the point where my phone wouldn't die before the battery was actually empty (no I'm not going to change the way I use a phone to take care of the battery. A phone is a tool and it serves me as I see fit) But here I am with that same problem in less than a year with two batteries. So time will tell about the "new" display technology.

I'm going to miss that second screen also. It was so useful, as it was on the V10 and Note Edge. The laggy floating display will probably just annoy me, as I hate floating widgets and such.

Looking forward to the 835 and new screen aspect ratio. Wondering how fast the wireless charge will be, because I'd rather not wear out the type C port. (another advantage of removable battery).

Sigh. See you guys on the V30 side soon.

Turn off OK Google detection, probably is killing your battery. My V20 is still a beast. Battery more efficient than any Samsung phone I've owned.

Have you ever used a phone with Snapdragon 835? Trust me, battery life won't be a problem. Include AMOLED screen + software optimization, it's gonna be a killer device.

I have... And I can say that I will take a removable battery over it to being forced to charging it or having to carry or a one of those heavy bulky battery packs.

I slip my LG battery and travel case in my back pocket and don't even know it's there. Less than a minute I am changed out and back to a full charge. Yes I can carry several of these with me if needed and still not have the bulk added to my phone or in my pocket.

I got pretty good battery life with my u11 but at a cost of not being able to have the brightest screen or many things disabled. The 835 is a very good chip but it still isn't a replacement for a removable battery. That freedom is gone by sealing the back.

The problem is LG’s launch.

Yes, the V30 is an outright beast, and also a very pretty one at that. But LG, like with last year’s V20, absolutely botched its launch by announcing a product and then going for over a month without announcing proper launch details and other bits of info that phone launches typically have.

By the time we could actually buy the phone, the Note8 and iPhone 8 are already in stores, while the new Pixels are already announced. Of course, if you wanted a V30, your mind would have already been made up, but if you’re just looking for a new phone and are interested in the V30, the long wait of almost nothing would have extinguished whatever excitement you had for it.

If it’s like last year, it’s probably gonna be a sleeper hit. Popular with fans and enthusiasts, but nothing much else.

My question is WHY? I see all the praise for the Pixel 2, Note 8, iFone X... the V30 knocks them all out. Packing so many premium and useful features in a phone, and honestly IMO the best looking phone out of all of them. Do you want LESS features and use the same rehashed phone as last year, is that better? Don't really get it. What does LG have to do to make it better... remove headphone jack, re-use last year's camera, color it red, put a Google or Apple logo over it?

The simple answer is the V30 doesn't knock them out at all, it doesn't really have any headline features to draw attention to itself and doesn't really offer much over the older and cheaper S8 series aside from the Quad DAC. I suspect that has niche appeal in general, for me it's a nice to have but for almost the same price I'd rather the Note 8's better screen, camera and memory particularly when I have a decent high quality audio player already. The F1.6 may sound impressive but it's really just for marketing, it's only a fractionally larger aperture than rivals and it loses that advantage due to the choice of smaller sensors so I would expect other cameras to outperform it in low light and in general.

Where I think LG could have really stood out was price, that's the big downside of all the main bezel-less phones so if LG had undercut them I think they could have made their mark that way. Making it more expensive than the S8 series and almost the same price as the Note 8 is just way too much for the spec it has. I will be surprised if it doesn't go exactly the same way as the G6 which was also a nice handset but couldn't quite match the S8 and similar but LG still priced it the same as the S8 which unsurprisingly did not work well.

LG's lack of marketing and branding is certainly an issue but at least here, even those that are fully aware of the V30 are choosing rival devices. I would have considered it at the £650 - £700 price range but definitely not at £800.

I disagree... Quad DAC and Video are two pretty big deals. besides the s-pen i'm not seeing anything the note or s8 have thats a big deal. matter of fact the s8 and note 8 have some major fails (fps, poor front speaker sound, Bixby and small battery) to name a few.

that said. this is Samsung the leader in Cell phones which basically means they can slap a screen on a pile of sh$t and people will but it....

I think the V30 is a great phone, no doubt one of the best this year, but I'd rather have a Note 8.

The Pixel 2 should be out of the question if you're an LG fan, it's like the total opposite. Amazing DAC headphone jack experience VS none. 1 camera vs dual. The new 1.6 aperture 16MP camera is what I'm looking forward to most, taking decent lowlight photos should be no problem. People say that 12MP is the same as 16MP, I beg to differ. Try taking a picture of the Moon, you'll see which photo looks sharper when cropped.

I'm an LG fan and I have a Pixel on order. If you're going to compare phones it would make sense not just to pick and choose features that jade your argument.

Megapixel count doesn't guarantee you better shots...there are other factors. Taking pictures of the moon are better left to real cameras.

Furthermore, no phone camera is going to net you a nice picture of the moon.

Doesn't matter whether it's 12MP with large pixels or 16MP with smaller pixels. It's going to be blurry from all that noise-reduction.

...since LG ditched the removable battery and ir blaster they took away the only reasons I've been buying their phones...

...Now I'm between just keeping my v20 or switching to the note 8 or pixel 2xl since they'd both be cheaper than the v30 with their respective promo offers...

The Note 8 and Pixel 2XL both don't have IR Blasters, so I don't know why they are considered over your V20.
