Who thinks the V30 ISN'T good or is just meh?

My question is WHY? I see all the praise for the Pixel 2, Note 8, iFone X... the V30 knocks them all out. Packing so many premium and useful features in a phone, and honestly IMO the best looking phone out of all of them. Do you want LESS features and use the same rehashed phone as last year, is that better? Don't really get it. What does LG have to do to make it better... remove headphone jack, re-use last year's camera, color it red, put a Google or Apple logo over it?

They need to stop limiting colors and options by market.

LG also does stupid things like make one color available for T-Mobile customers, or make the V30+ Sprint exclusive. I want a V30 that works fully with T-Mobile but in that blue color, not same old black/silver like every other damn phone.

Verizon...one color, one memory option

Honestly it is not even that, it is just lost in the shuffle. Samsung pays for the marketing and Apple has their brand recognition most of the general public are not aware of the v30. Also LG has this terrible release cycle idea to launch a phone at IFA and then release it 2 months later. They did this last year with the V20 and missed all of the potential Note 7 owners because even by the 2nd recall the V20 was not out yet. and they do it again this year biggest competition is the Note 8 so what do they do? release a month later. all of those customers lost. You would think they would be advertising the phone like hey 10/5 V30 be ready. No..... So even if you want the phone like i do it was not until last week we learned when release would be for sure. I dont understand the reasoning here for LG. You know your the underdog to Samsung so do everything you can to garner attention and i am not saying tv ads but instagram facebook forums.....but they dropped the ball again and the V30 is an amazing phone but no body is going to buy it unfortunately. because people know iphone and galaxy.

Sorry for the rant.....but in my opinion LG's best plan of attack in the age of the $1k smartphone is go lower price i dont mean budget but the same phone at $650 or $700 USD now your $300 cheaper than these other devices with so much more value.

So what if they started on the V40 right now so they can release it during the summer, would that work? The V30 is expected to be $800 unlocked, $600 at carrier stores with some type of monthly installment. Note 8 is $1000. I think the price difference plus better features will help. I honestly don't think everyone rushes out and buy the newest phone immediately, they carefully wait and hear the reviews first, and slowly save up for it. I really don't mind the wait, especially for a phone like the V30. Getting the Note 8 is like getting a S8+, nothing really exciting, maybe nice to have S pen back.

I had a V10 now a V20 and I got my girlfriend a G6. So I do believe in LG and their products and I like what they are doing.

But I don't like the idea of replacing the battery in an IP68 rated water resistant phone. And if history is any indicator, my high usage makes my batteries go bad. So I would end up having to replace the phone under warranty. And that is not something that I should have to factor into my purchase..expecting to get it replaced under warranty.

I understand your concern. I'm upset about the removable battery not returning to the V30. But honestly, with the newer, more battery efficient SD 835 plus software optimization, the battery should last a long time. Batteries last as long as you take care of it, don't let it reach 0% or reach high temperatures.

I have an LG Optimus Fuel that I use for music, 3 years old, still running. Got a Samsung laptop (2013) with sealed battery, still very good. Just take care of your device. I did hear about Nexus 6P batteries crapping out pretty soon, not sure why maybe cheap battery manufacture. I think it should last you at least 2 years before you notice a drop. By that time, you'd probably be wanting the V60 and the V30 would be considered ancient.

I didn't ask a question. A battery, sealed or otherwise can absolutely be replaced. Non-sealed would be much easier of course.

I think it's nice to see LG stand behind their products and extend the warranty from 1 to 2 years. I took advantage of the same offer on my daughter's G6. After the G4 (I had 3 of them) it's a way too try and instil faith back into their phones.

So far the G6 has been great for her and I'm hoping the V30 takes another step in the right direction

LG really wants their customers to know they care, and people are really concerned about the bootloop. LG has your back. 2 years is really long and definitely good warranty for a phone. If it can last 2 years, the phone had served me well.

I don't think the v30 is meh but since LG ditched the removable battery and ir blaster they took away the only reasons I've been buying their phones.

Now I'm between just keeping my v20 or switching to the note 8 or pixel 2xl since they'd both be cheaper than the v30 with their respective promo offers. Either one would be about $625 vs $800 for the v30 unless they announce some other trade in promo.

My brother has the note 8 and it's actually really solid and the screen and camera are ridiculous. The pixel will obviously be the fastest Android phone and receive 3 major os upgrades which is enticing. Just not sure i can lose the ir, battery AND micro sd all at once but unlimited photo backup would help.

The wide angle camera never mattered to me (I'd rather have a solid main camera which the v20 lacks for my use) and the dac was one of those nice to have features that i never really took advantage of so I'm having a hard time even considering the v30 despite how solid the v20 has been.

The Pixel 2 should be out of the question if you're an LG fan, it's like the total opposite. Amazing DAC headphone jack experience VS none. 1 camera vs dual. The new 1.6 aperture 16MP camera is what I'm looking forward to most, taking decent lowlight photos should be no problem. People say that 12MP is the same as 16MP, I beg to differ. Try taking a picture of the Moon, you'll see which photo looks sharper when cropped.

To be honest, I think all of the new phones are meh.

Sealing up the phone takes away the removable battery. This kills it for me.

The added weight and bulk of a external battery pack sucks.

Sure the v30 will be a really good phone to most people who own one, but there are a lot of great phones now... and having a option of buying a phone with a removable battery is no longer available.

What else will LG in their infinite stupidity will give up to try to copy Samsung or Apple just to fail miserable?

The people in charge there refuse to fire those who market the phones. They don't have a clue on how to advertise their products. They won't spend their money like Samsung or Apple does and they won't ever make a dent in market share until they do.

Mac

They are spending some money. Social media and YouTube. Commercials cost billions of dollars for airtime, they are poor compared to Apple and Samsung. I think they have a sales rep going from store to store to teach salespeople about it.

For me personally and being an LG fan, the Pixel XL looks slightly better, has dual speakers, a better main camera, raise to wake and better updates. I'd happily compromise on losing the wide angle lens on the V30 for some of those features.
I still think the Huawei Mate 10 is going to be the phone of the year though. From leak photos it's by far the nicest looking of them all and I'm sure the features will deliver too

I agree with you, OP. The V30 is an amazing, premium device that seems to have gotten a little eclipsed by Apple and Samsung. Unfortunately, that's how the cookie's been crumbling over the past few years/iterations.

It's funny. Apple makes mediocre phones, using the same old design for 4 years and going. Their phones are made entirely of other manufactures parts. People love them and love camping out to buy one. Samsung already won the hearts of many, from their previous Note 3s and Note 4s, owners immediately already made up their mind. I still have a friend hanging on for dear life on the Note 4 because he just can't let go of that removable battery. Samsung has earned their respect for sure, making great devices though this year, I felt they lost innovation. I think they know people don't care about gimmicky features (IR blaster, removable battery, eye scroll, etc.) and want something good yet straightforward and that's how it's been. LG has been pushing it, failed attempted with the G5 but making a nice comeback immediately with the V20, G6, and soon V30.

A non removable battery cannot be replaced when they go bad. My V20 just died at 8%. The other battery dies at 14%. If I got the V30 I'd have to get it warranty replaced to resolve.

What's your question?

Turn off OK Google detection, probably is killing your battery. My V20 is still a beast. Battery more efficient than any Samsung phone I've owned.

Have you ever used a phone with Snapdragon 835? Trust me, battery life won't be a problem. Include AMOLED screen + software optimization, it's gonna be a killer device.

People say that 12MP is the same as 16MP, I beg to differ. Try taking a picture of the Moon, you'll see which photo looks sharper when cropped.

Depends on the implementation actually. In the case of Samsung for example, it's 16mp camera on the S6 is in 16:9 format, while the 12mp in the S7 is in 4:3. Inside the S6 settings, if you set it to 12mp 4:3, it takes the same picture as the 12mp of the S7 but the S7 has a clearer picture because of the bigger pixels. However if we have exact same sensor quality, cropping the picture would show no difference.

If we're talking about 16mp and 12mp in the same aspect ratio, then yes the 16mp would be sharper. But if it's 16mp in widescreen vs 12mp in 4:3, the better one will be the one with the better sensor because they just basically slashed 4mp on the sides to make the aspect ratio 4:3 but kept same quality.

I agree. I know people say it about all phones but my Mate 9 is a beast !! around a year of use and still no lag or slow down anywhere. not to mention battery goes all day. ill wait on the mate 10 and compare to the v30 and Pixel XL. note 8 has been pushed aside for now-.

I'm really just a fan of removable batteries lol. Once LG ditched those they had to compete with everyone else for my money. I rarely used the dac, and my camera usage is usually just snapping candid shots of the kids which LG phones haven't been very good at so far.

Other than really bad ghosting on my v20 screen it's been a great phone. Whatever i get I'll still keep it as a backup.

You're right. This is the reason I chose the v30. The S8, pixel(yuk), iPhone, they all omitsomething useful as the G6 did last year. But lg seemed committed to putting in the options people want. 3.5mm jack, quad dac, oled screen, great internals, and if you're on T-mobile like me, the ability to use their 600mhz spectrum as it becomes available. (by the way, I just changed all 5 of my lines to T-Mobile yesterday after being with verizon for 25years) . But that's another story.

I missed you Morty. We've been in different forums. Hope you're doing well 👍

I've been anticipating the Mate 10 too. Part of me wants to buy the unlocked V30 as soon as it comes out, another part of me wants to wait a tiny bit longer to see what's up w/ the Mate 10

No phone is good as the Mate 9, it seriously the best phone in the recent years, it lacks some whistles, which the Mate 10 gonna bring, and those, it will have effecient Kirin 970 and 4000mah battery, which will annihalte any phone in that regard, heck Mate 9 still has the best battery life, and as a whole package, it's the most impressive phone.

V30 is good for video creations, i heard mixed reports about camera performance, and i'm unsure how it will perform with ppsspp emulator, considiring the fact that the Note 8 is trash in that regard.

I couldn't agree with you more. This is why I don't understand Apple and Apple users - you get pretty much the same phone with some update in specs; and yet it flies off the shelf with each ensuing iteration. Now, I do understand upgrading from an iPhone 5, say, to one of the Plus series phones, but otherwise, I don't really understand the hype surrounding every new iPhone iteration when the stuff under the hood has only marginally changed and the exterior still looks pretty much the same (not discussing the X though, which is definitely a different beast!).

And yes, people camping out for these phones... I just don't understand (again). I do respect Apple, don't get me wrong; I just fathom at the user/fan base when it comes to upgrading.

Samsung is doing some cool stuff but the only phone so far that really seems to be intriguing to me thus far is the Note 8; mainly because that is the Note 7 replacement/upgrade that everyone wanted. Samsung delivered on that so far.

But LG is really trying. I think they're the ones taking the biggest risks with these iterations. Look at the difference between the G5 and the G6! It's night and day! Apple and Samsung seem to want to play it safer than that (usually). And like you've said, LG failed with the G5 but slammed their cards on the table and came out swinging with their new iteration. I don't think they're getting enough credit for accomplishments like the G6, V20 and soon the V30. Heck, I thought the V10 was super sick beans.

I'm hoping LG does well this year. I'm actually changing my mind (again) on a new phone and am now leaning towards the G6.
