Who will be getting the S4 from Google and selling Nexus4

If Google made it more affordable then I might of paid for one but its not worth $700 for minor upgrade. The camera and screen would be the only major reasons to switch(for me) and they are both not worth that price. I have a GS3 and hate the button layout and build of that device. They should of gotten rid of the buttons for the on screen buttons.

I was excited until I heard the price. I'll just wait til the Nexus 5 is released.

Screen space is being used for buttons instead of content. It is quite possibly the dumbest move Google has made in regards to Android.

Sigh.

Just as onscreen buttons take up screen space, physical buttons add bezel and make the phone larger.

And ever heard of PIE?

Nah probably not. I like the idea of getting a few more features on my phone. But honestly I've been too satisfied with my N4 to sell it and spend an additional $300+ just to get those features.

The GS4 does not have an enlarged bezel. Though, I'd much rather have the stock 3 buttons as capacitive touch instead of the GS4 physical button.

PIE also seems slower because of the 2 step (gesture + button).

I'm on Verizon, so I really have no choice...I have to wait for a GE ROM port to the carrier S4. If I had to deal with GSM, I'd probably get a Nexus 4. Though with subsidized pricing, a carrier GS4 would be cheaper and a ROM port would make it essentially identical.

I am about to return to the Android world with a Nexus 4. I think it should still have some life in it. At least two more major updates. Am I correct?

I can't wait until the S4GE's image quality comes up as not being as good as the carrier branded S4. Novices don't realize the hardware is only a part of the puzzle. The software makes a big difference and they will no longer have Samsung's software to process the images. The Nexus 4 camera hardware is actually good. The software is the issue just like it will be on the S4GE.

Sigh...My Nexus 4 has plenty of room on the bezel for persistent buttons. Not sure about yours.

If Google was going to get rid of physical buttons they could have at least used all the front surface area available for the display. Soft-buttons are not as annoying as I thought they would be, but I'd still prefer persistent navigation buttons.

On screen buttons are awesome, especially since you can move them, make them hide and be called with gestures, use PIE, change the configuration, change the size (more real estate). Many more options, and much more control over using your device. Since Samsung made the first device with the correct button configuration (back, home and recent apps), why can't they figure it out now? Their menu button is the main cause of the "black bar" issue on the HTC One, etc. On screen isn't the only way to go, but it's the way that gives the user the most flexibility for how they use their device.

If it was cheaper maybe $450-$550 I would definitely get it. Would love not having an all glass phone and the removable battery would be more than worth it for me.

The battery size of the S4 is 2600mAh right ? And the Nexus 4 is 2100mAh ? So that difference is almost 25%, does that equate to real world battery life too, does the S4 get 25% better battery life over the Nexus 4 ? That would be a pretty big selling point right there is real world battery life is 25% better on this S4 over the Nexus. That could give an additional 2 to 4 hours more battery life.

And then what about the Note 2's 3100mAh battery, would that same battery fit inside the S4 ? The S4 is so thin already, I'd be happy with a hair thicker phone, with the Note 2's 3100mAh inside.

...assuming you use the stock battery. You can upgrade the S4 even more. I think the one my roomate has in his S3 is 3500+mAh. There is never a good reason not to have removable batteries.

There is never a good reason not to have removable batteries.

Tell that to Apple. I can also think of a few...

1. Allows the engineers to create more solid, unibody phones with less wasted internal space.
2. Battery cover becomes a point of weakness and can gradually loosen with repeated removals.

Removable batteries are a feature that's obviously important to you, but fixed batteries have advantages as well.

The S4 battery does last longer than the N4. I have not done a direct comparison but anecdotally speaking, I have more % left at night when I plug in on the S4 than the N4. I would say an hour or two more is not out of the question. Not going to try and stick my Note 2 battery into my S4...sorry...
