Unfortunately Verizon does not like the Pure Edition version of the Moto X (2014). The Pure Edition will get the update directly from Motorola and does not contain any carrier bloat. The Pure Edition is the closest to a Nexus device without being a Nexus. Even with a Nexus device on Verizon you will run into a delay because Verizon still has to get their figures into the mix.
But otherwise for the most part the above comments are correct, a Verizon Moto X (2014) has to go through Verizon and will be delayed for their testing.
