Who's switching from getting the EVO LTE to the SGS3?

The only advantage the US S3 has over the E4GLTE is the removable battery. It loses on screen, camera, and release date.

I have an og Evo and have never had a spare battery, so the removable battery does nothing for me. I do like S3 had a slightly bigger battery.

are you saying evo 4g lte doesn't have a removable battery?

Samsung phones are rubbish compared to HTC, take my word for it! I had the original EVO 4G and now have the Samsung Epic Touch and Ive had nothing but issues with the Epic Touch, you can feel a definite build quality difference too

In all honesty the screen differences are not something you'd notice in daily use, and that's really the only real difference between the two. All this talk of Sense vs TW and build quality is nonsense since there are plenty of people on both sides of the argument.

It all depends on whether the E4GLTE will ever get S-OFF. My Evo 4G without custom rom's wasn't nearly as nice to use.

You may not be able to see a difference in screens but for me the differences are huge. For me the screen alone is a deal breaker, let alone my perception of build quality differences. Obviously a case of YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary).

to say there is not a build quality difference is just being ignorant to the fact that Samsung devices just feel cheap compared to HTC devices, since I got my Samsung Epic Touch in November it has had location issues with apps that depend on location services, gps issues, loss of signal issues..........none of which I ever experienced with my original HTC EVO 4g, and for this reason Im going to bite the bullet and pay full price the the HTC EVO 4g lte on May 18th

The real question for me is....which of these two phones will last longer in the rooting department?? The OG Evo managed to get up to gingerbread but ICS (from what I've been reading) has been a NIGHTMARE to get functioning right. The OG Epic 4G on the other hand is performing BETTER with ICS than gingerbread! So, from a hacking perspective, which phone would be better to root in the long run?

S-OFF for newer HTC phones is very hard/impossible, and Samsung phones come with unlocked bootloaders and very easy root via Odin. GS3 is the easy answer to 'which phone has more root potential'.

I have read and talked to classmates with Evo's that have had difficulty rooting and getting certain roms to function properly thats why I asked. I had no idea about S-OFF for newer HTC phones so thats news to me. I would like to buy an HTC phone because of their nice builds but ever since I dove into rooting last year with my Epic 4G, its a necessity now for me since I feel that it will prolong the life of the phone. I don't have the money to be spending yearly on a new phone so I have to wait till my upgrade. I would assume if you are a vanilla user who doesn't want to be bothered with rooting, than the HTC line of phones would suit them best. For the people who want more (hacking, rooting, OS customization, etc..) out of their phones, Samsung seems like the best choice!

This is exactly how I feel as well. Custom roms made my Evo4G a much better phone, and as much as I like the new Sense and the new Evo, this is a major reason I'll be getting the GS3 instead.

I was so sure that i was sticking with EVO LTE but the more reviews i see from s3 the more I get excited about all the software it has. And its tons! Maybe cause ive been disappointed in my EVO 3d for some time and even bored with the roms it has. (No offense to all devs) I still remember how much of a beast the og EVO was and hey maybe I'll feel the same when i pick up my LTE on Friday from BB. I will say this though if it doesn't excite me I'll be definitely looking at sammys way even though i hate the fact that the s3 is STILL using pentile tech

IMO Pentile is a non issue. The screen used in the GS3 is better than the similar one in the Nexus (brighter, less space between pixels). It will also have richer blacks and colors than LCD. I would not base my phone purchase on that alone.

I can't believe this thread has gotten this far. Samsung Android phones have terrible signal strength and data connection. Does this not matter?

no kidding - ooh the GS3 looks nicer...but what good is it unless they've improved the radios?

I can sit in the same room with my daughter - my Evo3D has 4 bars, her Epic4G has 2, then 1, then 2, then 0, then 1....

even my WIFI connectivity is better. IMO the only (non-fluff) advantage the GS3 has is the removable battery...and event that's not a dealbreaker with Sprint packing 2000ma (even better than the one-x screw u ATT).
